But right now yea Bron would win. Probably couldn't beat prime Kobe though. Too strong and skilled.

You should watch the 2003 matchup of TMac and Kobe. TMac handled Kobe pretty well 1-on-1, and he's kinda like a Lebron lite.

A lot of NBA players could probably take LeBron one on one, and some of them probably journeymen too. That said, LeBron is great because of his effect on an entire team's overall play, rather than being just a great iso player. Which he still is, of course.

Did any of you see how difficult it was for Kobe to score on Lebron in the fourth? He basically went off in the beginning, Miami switched Lebron on him, and he went scoreless the rest of the quarter.

Here's what it would look like:

Basketball is 5 on 5, which is why Kobe can dominate. Against a bigger, stronger (and unfortunately at this point faster) player, the big man wins. There's no distraction, no diversion, just track your man, block him, rebound, and post.

I think if they ever brought this 1 on 1 brand of basketball back, it would have to be with a height/weight class system, similar to Boxing. Without it, imho it would be unfair.

In the primes of their careers, big man that are reasonable quick and can handle the ball(Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, KG and even a David Robinson) would trounce Kobe, Jordan and possible even Lebron etc in the primes of their careers. They just have to have reasonable competent ball handling to slowly back down their opponents which is easy to do over such a short distance with only one other person on the court and then go in for easy scores. Even if they miss, they may get the offensive rebound. The shorter players would be having to rely upon outside jumpers way too much. Well maybe Shaq would lose if the other player could foul him on every single play and Shaq had to shoot free throws.

I do think that video with Dr. J is misleading a bit. First of all, bigs age much better at an advanced age since they are still tall. This is part of the reason a guy like Allen Iverson is out of the nba while someone like Marcus Camby in his same draft class is still in it. And despite being older, Kareem was closer to his nba playing days. A young Dr. J vs a young Kareem would still get trounced but he wouldn't look nearly as bad since he'd have much better quickness and leaping ability.

As for peak Kobe vs peak Lebron. It would be good competition. If Kobe could prevent Lebron from overpowering him with drives to the basket -- a very difficult task --, he may have the edge since he is a better midrange shooter and clearly has more 1 on 1 moves. Lebron may not have always been very good at post ups near the basket but in a 1 on 1 setting he has plenty of time to setup and use his size advantage.

Magic vs Kobe or Jordan would be interesting since I think prime/young Magic may be able to beat both of them even though Magic wasn't the best defender. Magic would be able to back both of them down and he was successful playing center in the 1980's finals and would have an even easier time trying to score inside on Kobe and Jordan.

Lebron is the one "perimeter player besides Magic' that has the size to compete against the best centers.

Handchecking goes both ways. Kobe would never even get to the rim, if Lebron can put a arm on him at all times. Every shot he would have would have to be a out of this world, turn around J.

I dont think he could get his shot up clean on lebron one on one. Even in his prime. Lebron is a freak. And his post game would wreck Kobe.

It's good to see people come around.. I remember this same thread being made awhile ago and people saying "Kobe easily" when in reality Lebron would win fairly easily

peak vs peak? kobe is the better 1 on 1 to me, not sure why everyone is making a big deal about lebron's strength when his post game is not all that good. not to mention kobe is more talented when it comes to iso games.

kobe at 6'6 can still defend lebron who is 6'8, 2 inches is not going to make much difference, look at ben wallace and who guarded.

but at the end of the day id still prefer lebron's game over his. D-rose can beat nash, rondo, and almost every PG but that doesnt mean hes better than them all around. its a team sport
but for kobe to say hes the best one on one of all time??? LOL MJ is laughing somewhere,

Hmm...I don't think so at this point. Anywhere from 2003 up until when he broke his finger and began to lose his athleticism this would be Kobe, partially because he was a better shooter/ball handler before that and also because LeBron had yet to develop a reliable post game.

It's so sad the NBA doesn't have a 1 on 1 competition.

Half of LeBrons fgs were dunks in transition or alley oops.

That has nothing to do with playing 1on1. Not even counting the fact that LeBron and Kobe barely guarded each other the entire game. Your stats are meaningless for this discussion.

Is there going to be ref in this or do you call your own calls? Also are we talking right now or prime Kobe vs Lebron now?

Not to be insulting but I feel like some posters here haven't played much one on one--- Kobe is going to hand check all day and Lebron won't blow by him if that is the case--- he'll be pulling up for jumpers way more than you think.

I still take Lebron at this point but it could go either way with Kobe winning a fair share as well when his shot is on.

Length > strength in one on one. lebron is not that much longer than Kobe. It would be fun to watch. Funny how people are speaking in absolutes though.

lol at you people jumping to conclusions just based on lebron's size, strength and athleticism. 1v1 takes away Lebrons BEST scoring opportunity...the fast break. Lebron in a halfcourt set in isolation is not nearly as effective as Lebron in the open court. Someone post Isolation def/off stats from synergy. I'm willing to bet its not that different between Kobe and Lebron. It will definitely be a good matchup with Kobe getting the edge because of superior skill and finesse. Theres not enough room to run people over and jump over them in a half court 1v1 game.

If 3's are worth 2 pts and loser takes out, I got Kobe. Otherwise Lebron takes it.
