Re: Which lottery teams (currently) has brightest future?
imo...
Best:
Cavs: two stars ( Irving, Varejao ) plus 3 lottery picks ( Tristan , Waiters , This year's ) plus a lot of cap space, and Byron Scott is at least solid.
Hornets: Gordon is a top 6 SG and a really good scorer ( But very injury prone ) Davis imo will be a top 10 player maybe even top 5, Ryan Anderson is a good player with a solid contract, Lopez is playing very solid this season could be part of the core, Vasquez is solid, cap space, another lottery pick and i like Monty Williams.
Pistons: Drummond ( Beast ) Monroe ( Above Average ) Knight ( Sucks ) is there core, Frank is bad and i don't trust Dumars with all the cap space that they will have.
Worst:
Suns: Don't want to tank it seems, and are after overrated low impact players with there cap space ( Gay, Monta ).
Kings: Cousins and a whole lot of mess there.

The way Wall and Beal are playing and meshing, I had to pick us. All that could hold us back is our front office.
Just about any of those teams could be the next to make the leap though.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

DET could overthrow them (much to my deep frustration as a Raptor fan because it could have been Val & Drummond instead but I regress). Drummond has arguebly equal potential to Davis or more given his position and pairing him with Monroe the Pistons have a beastly froncourt. They will in all likelyhood add a decent wing this draft but of course the key for Detriot is will they finish in the bottom 8 next year??? If they do they are adding a helluva piece with their frontcourt; if not well than I don't like them as much lol
As for CLE, I say pending a top 3 pick next year....hell no. Outside of Kyrie they are playing moneyball and failing. Had they done it correctly and drafted Valanciunas and Drummond then they would have been the scariest young franchise in a decade; yes over OKC and POR imo. Two monsters in the posts, a top tier PG AND they could have been adding most likely a great young wing this AND next....damn what could of been. Instead they'll take more gambles on good but not great players. Really sad the opportunities they've blown so far.
Is Jonas really that good? I think you might be overrating him. Passing on Drummond will bite them in the butt. I don't think Jonas will be nearly as good as projected to be by Toronto fans.

Hilarious that people still say Val is a clear cut better prospect than Thompson. Maybe watch Tristan once in a while....might be a good idea.
As for Drummond - again I am good with Waiters. He is showing the explosive ability to get to the hoop and be a playmaker. Lets also not forget since Zeller has started, about 15 games, he is averaging around 11 and 11.

If they can get an upgrade at SF or C this offseason they'll be in the playoffs next year.
A hornets fan that loves watching the hornets play? Shocking....
Hornets have two nice players in Davis and Gordon, but the rest of their rostor is trash.
I am NOT a Hornets fan, but Eric Gordon and Anthony Davis are more than just "NIce" players. Davis has loads of potential, and Eric Gordon is a proven SG in this league.
Grevis Vasquez, Ryan Anderson, Robin Lopez and Aminu are not trash. They are pretty good complimentary pieces. For those reasons I feel that NO has the brightest future. I think they need an upgrade at center and another year or two for Anthony Davis to develop, but they've got a bright future.
I think Detroit has the second brightest future. Drummond, a player with as much potential as anyone in this draft who is already an impactful player this young, Monroe and Knight who are both good young players. I think Monroe has started to plateau, but the jury is still out on Knight. That core, along with another top 10 pick and a ton of salary cap space give them a lot of flexibility to make some moves, add another piece to the core or sign an FA.
Then the Cavs, who have the best player on any lottery team in Kyrie Irving. They would be first had they taken Drummond/Barnes and Valanciunas. Tristan Thompson looks like a pretty good role player who can rebound, play some defense and finish dunks/layups. I think Val will be better though. Waiters is really ball dominant, has terrible shot selection and some of the worst volume scoring in the league. I'm not buying the "he doesn't get calls" excuse. All rookies get the rookie treatment. I don't think you win with undersized, inefficient guards in this league. Tyler Zeller was a nice acquisition though.

I don't know if I would use "dominant" to describe CP3, but he definitely dominates the pace of the game when he's at his best. Rose is a dominant presence on the floor with his ability to get anywhere he wants on the court and dictate the way defense's react. Right now, Irving is a dominant scorer, but he doesn't control the pace of the game and his little to no impact defensively. Some of the Kyrie hype is getting out of hand.
What point guard has tremendous impact defensively?
Easy. Two of the PGs Irving is often mentioned with, Westbrook and Rondo, are both impact players on defense.
^To the post above, Rose's superior athleticism is WHY he is dominant. You can't just mention that in passing like it doesn't matter. Rose's freakish athleticism allows him to do things on the floor that most players can't. Every player on the defense has to constantly be on edge against him, because if you even give him an inch he will explode. If Rose had Irving's athleticism (and size, Irving is a bit smaller), I doubt anyone would even describe him as dominant.
And I never said CP3 was "NOT" dominant. What I meant was that "dominant" wasn't necessarily the first term that pops up in my head when I think of CP3. But sure, dominant could absolutely be used to describe him, why not.
Westbrook and Rondo have pretty much been near net zero players on defense this season, slightly net positive at best.... To say that they are high impact defenders on defense is laughable at best. To be frank there is no PG that has high impact on defense that I can think of. Chris Paul like Westbrook and Rondo is a slight net positive defender. There is no such thing as a high impact defensive PG at least not at the moment except maybe a defensive specialist or two.
Only the playoffs separate the true great ones and frauds.

Detroit maybe, but their back court stinks. Fully healthy, the Cavs were dreadful this season, not buying into them.
That's exactly how I feel. Washington and New Orleans have the brightest future. If the Pistons can get a decent guard they are right up there also

Yeah the Irving hype is out of control. The guy is a volume scorer that doesn't win games. He is a horrible defender and not a playmaker. I guess a young Monta Ellis was dominant also. With that said he will make a lot of all-star games because he's popular but I don't see him winning games anytime soon. Talented player but he hasn't improved much since his rookie season.

Even though they are older, I think it's the Lakers. Nash, Kobe, Dwight, Pau. That's pretty good.

Someone actually voted Phoenix?
As others have said, we are well and truly screwed for the next several years.
I'd probably vote Portland if it was an option, they may still make the playoffs, but Lillard looks like a star in the making.

Cleveland has a franchise player with his head on right. There is a lot to be said about that.

Re: Which lottery teams (currently) has brightest future?
Its not an option but I think Philly.
Looks like they wont make the playoffs atm.
They have Holiday, who has the potential to be a top 5 PG (if hes not there already based on this season) - I think Holiday is a better prospect than Irving currently. Kyrie is not a superstar, he is hyped up because he has replaced Lebron in Clevelend. If he was at any other franchise he would be less hyped, he still has superstar potential though.
Philly then have (potentially):
- Bynum (top 3 centre)
- Turner (seems to be sorting things out)
- Young (has the talent, just not playing to his potential in the nba).
They also have the potential to make a trade. JRich, Hawes & whoever could probably get you Gasol.
Holiday, some SG, Turner, Gasol, Bynum with Young as the 6th man is decent.
They have the potential to be the best out of any lotto team in the short term.
Long term Id go Detroit. Drummond/Monroe
Also think if Utah drop out of the playoffs its them. I say this because if they decide to tank they could move Big Al and/or Millsap and get a lotto pick and next season have a decent starting 5. (Favors, Kanter, Burks, Hayward)

Depends on Beal developing though. Wall will get there, but Beal would need to follow up on some of that Ray Allen hype he was getting before.
I think Beal is a more of a sure thing that Wall is. It will be very interesting to see how Wall and Beal gel in the second half of the season. If Wall and Beal and can sustain their current level of play, the future is bright.

Lakers.
They have one of the best assets in the game in Dwight Howard, plus some of their bigger contracts expire soon. They also are one of the favorite free agent destinations and always seem to get lopsided trades in their favor.

I don't think so...he's shooting 47/40/87, pretty close to 50/40/90 which is considered to be the epitome of efficiency. He has good shot selection and is capable of running an offense, despite being more of a scoring PG. I don't think he's a combo guard though. I think he is a legit PG who can run an offense but is geared more towards scoring than playmaking, and for the record...I think a lot of his scoring has to do with the fact that he and Waiters are the only two guys that can create their own shot.
Waiters on the other hand is shooting 38/32/78....and he's undersized without elite athleticism and length. There's a difference of .5 for his shots per game and his ppg. That's terrible volume shooting, and the kind of scoring that doesn't win games.
Irving though, make no mistake, is the type of player that will helps you win games. He finds ways to get to his spots and is capable of picking apart of a defense. Kyrie is legit.
