Damn, the Grizzlies got fleeced.

Not because Speights/Ellington/Selby were anything special - in that regard, it's a reasonable salary dump to get under the tax without sacrificing any of their top 5-6 guys.

But the 1st... that is going to potentially come back to bite them. I mean, was that really a sticking point? Did Cavs say "no deal if it's lotto-protected!"?

Poorly protecting picks that are far down the road is a bad idea, and often screws you over when the pick would be most useful.

I think Selby is still undervalued, but I guess the front office gotta do what it gotta do. One of Speights or Arthur was going to go at the end of the season and this kind of hurts the Grizz in terms of size, but at least they got a decent first round pick back.

*edit*
dafuq, all that plus a first and second pick for leur?

Don't be so sure. Hollins is not generous with his playing time for rookies.

The only thing I don't like about the deal is giving up the pick.

Other than that, the team is more than likely going to get Delonte West and Bill Walker. Two players that are pretty much on the same talent level or better than Selby and Ellington. Leur and Mo are two bigs that can hit the midrange jumper. NO reason to pay a 4th big $4.2M right now.

Grizz are also considering Sasha Vujacic who is in Turkey right now.

So, instead of putting $7M into Speights, Ellington and Selby, the Grizz will probably only put about $2M into West, Leur and Walker.

Kenyon would be fine i guess but Randolph-Gasol-Arthur-Haddadi-Leuer should be enough barring prolonged injuries, after all Hollins apparently feels more comfortable with a shorter big men rotation.
With Ellington gone signing 1 of Delonte-Walker, or even both, is a must.

What is the protection on the pick after 2015?

Jason Lloyd @JasonLloydABJ

#Cavs trade official. Pick is protected 1-5 & 15-30 for 2015 and 2016. Top 5 protected 2017 & 2018 and unprotected in 2019.

So Cavs only get the pick in 15/16 if it is 6-13? interesting.

Cavs are pretty much guaranteed to get a lotto pick out of this.

A lottery pick for Leuer... too sweet. Just a heads up Memphis: Leuer is TERRIBLE. Thanks for giving us a bench and a lottery pick.

I thought that Speights fitted in very well in Memphis, I just loved the way he yapped to DeAndre last year in round 1 after every jumpshot he made. He's a rugged banger that definitely will prove himself in Cleveland. Leuer seems so white and could look so out of place at Memphis... I guess Darrell Arthur will play even more now.

Leuer won't even sniff the court, Arthur will play more for sure, and Haddadi is more than capable to handle 8-10 mpg as the backup C.

WTF...Ellington was having a career season under Memphis. Horrendous trade and they just killed any contender talk because their bench is what made them dangerous just as well as their starting lineup.

:o

Rudy Gay's and Z-Bo's contracts expire in 2015, correct? If both leave and Memphis is left as a bottom feeder, this deal is absolutely horrible for them.

Cleveland stock piling draft picks is the sign of a blockbuster trade coming IMO. I mean, they own something like 8 firsts over the next three drafts . There is no way they plan on actually using all those picks.

I'm thinking Cousins to Cleveland for some of those picks and a prospect.
