If you're an NBA player you're better than 99% of D1 basketball players.

First of all mad props for Scal to do this and on camera, can't think of many NBA players even retired to do 1 on 1 against a random guy.

The skill level is totally different though, if you watched him play the first guy, the first 6 shots were 6 different ways to score and he kept the guy guessing all the time. I don't really think he was playing solid D either, just holding his position and using his smarts to not give the other guy a driving lane.

Pretty cool to watch.

Scalabrine is 34, not 40.

TBH Scal was pretty bad.. I'm disappointed.. Finishing at rim = 1/10..

The crazy part is you think about how even your best local talent can't measure up to Brian Scalabrine. That puts into perspective how unbelievably good guys like Kobe, LeBron, and Melo are 1 on 1. They would probably win 1 on 3 if you gave them the ball first.

But still I wouldn't say Scalabrine was that impressive. He missed a ton of shots he really had no business missing and really only dominated because these kids don't have the ability to shoot over a 6'8" guy or the body to stop him on defense.

Scalabrine definitely wasn't in the NBA because of his one on one abilities. He muscled a lot of the guys to get his baskets, but it wasn't domination. I've seen better domination in one on one before, but these were also the best guys available I'm assuming

Depends, positions also matter, and making the NBA isn't just about being a good one on one scorer

You're discounting how well he used his size, strength, and footwork to get them out of position. It's not like he just backed them down for 20 seconds and shot a layup.

If I'm not mistaken, the niche Scal found in the NBA wasn't going 1on1 in the post. He wasn't the type of player you fed the ball to down low and expected him to drop meaningful numbers, he was the guy who hustled for you and brought energy/rebounds. Right?
