First of all mad props for Scal to do this and on camera, can't think of many NBA players even retired to do 1 on 1 against a random guy.

The skill level is totally different though, if you watched him play the first guy, the first 6 shots were 6 different ways to score and he kept the guy guessing all the time. I don't really think he was playing solid D either, just holding his position and using his smarts to not give the other guy a driving lane.

Pretty cool to watch.

Scalabrine is 34, not 40.

TBH Scal was pretty bad.. I'm disappointed.. Finishing at rim = 1/10..

The crazy part is you think about how even your best local talent can't measure up to Brian Scalabrine. That puts into perspective how unbelievably good guys like Kobe, LeBron, and Melo are 1 on 1. They would probably win 1 on 3 if you gave them the ball first.

But still I wouldn't say Scalabrine was that impressive. He missed a ton of shots he really had no business missing and really only dominated because these kids don't have the ability to shoot over a 6'8" guy or the body to stop him on defense.

Scalabrine definitely wasn't in the NBA because of his one on one abilities. He muscled a lot of the guys to get his baskets, but it wasn't domination. I've seen better domination in one on one before, but these were also the best guys available I'm assuming

Depends, positions also matter, and making the NBA isn't just about being a good one on one scorer

You're discounting how well he used his size, strength, and footwork to get them out of position. It's not like he just backed them down for 20 seconds and shot a layup.

If that were the league, he'd have fouled out.

If I'm not mistaken, the niche Scal found in the NBA wasn't going 1on1 in the post. He wasn't the type of player you fed the ball to down low and expected him to drop meaningful numbers, he was the guy who hustled for you and brought energy/rebounds. Right?

I don't know how people can doubt any NBA players lol, they practice with the greatest every day.

Im just wondering does everyone play one on one like this in america? Its like a video game. I'm use to keeping the ball live and going for rebounds and stuff.

I think I'm the only one who actually was given Scal more credit before the pickup game?

Scal still has 12 years of professional basketball on everyone on this forum.

Well, no surprise that an NBA ALL-TIME LEGEND as the White Mamba can ball.
If he was a little more selfish, he could have dropped 30k+ in the NBA easily.

That seems like a really funny video to watch, I wish I could watch it on my phone right now but it's not showing up. I'll make sure to watch it when I'm on my laptop, though.

But yeah, I'd love to see some benchwarmers in the NBA play against some of these people, too. Some people always talk crap about 12th men who never get any playing time.

I noticed the talent difference of the NBA and other players this season when Kent Bazemore of the Warriors would get sent down to the D-League. Kent gets no playing time with the Golden State Warriors because he lacks an offensive game, yet when he got sent down to the D-League he scored like 27 points so effortlessly and got a couple steals, too. It's crazy how big the talent gap is between the NBA and other players.

To put the 'good college players could have beat him' notion into perspective, scal averaged 18ppg in college. Obviously as a big he's not going to be the best one on one guy.

Articles about this keep mentioning that one of the guys he beat "played" at Syracuse last year. Kind of misleading; it's not like he was playing Dion Waiters, dude was a walk-on

I don't think Scal is a good 1-1 matchup for guys who are not in the league because he has great "average" size and he's a fundamental player. I think Scal is better than a lot of current players in the league in this kind of format. What I would be interested to see is someone like Keith Bogans play someone. Someone with size but not massive.
