Valanciunas has close to 3 point range as a 20 year old rookie. Great free throw shooter too so the potential is there. He's known more for his inside presence on the glass and defensively so he sounds like what you're looking for.

This thread brings up another topic, when will the NBA shift to a "taller" game. Guys like Durant and Lebron already have the ball skills to bring the ball up the court and Lebron has the ability to actually play the PG position at an elite level. Then you have guys like Parsons, Charlie V, Ryan Anderson etc who all mainly play on the perimeter. In 15 years, can you see an NBA with a 6'8 PG, 6'10 SG, and a 7ft front court?

no, i think the league will actually get smaller, with more 6'9" guys at center. the more and more teams go away from big defensive post presence bigs, the less of a need it is to have them on the floor at all. plus, the game really handcuffs bigmen in general

Well Bosh lead the league in 15% corner jump shots last year. Including guards. Pretty sure hes up top this year as well. So I would put him up top with best shooting big men.

He's shooting 52.1% in mid range jumpers He's practically leading the league in this area. No body shoots a higher percentage with at least 100 shots.

kevin durant is not a big man. to me a big man is someone who always plays pf/c, and that's not kd. chris bosh is a shooting big man, that's what they look like.

Oh don't believe him. The height has basically stayed constant. There have been lots of 6' 9" centers in the past.

In 2011, the top two midrange guys were Dirk and Al Horford (by percentage and with a minimum of 100 attempts.) Both were over 50 percent. Number three? Elton Brand. If you lower the limit to, say, 60 attempts, you'll add more guys like Bonner. Al Horford is also a very good midrange shooter, and few people know. One year he was over 50 percent.

The most surprising? 7' 7" Gheorghe Muresan hit 52% of his midrange shots in 1997 at 95 attempts.

Dave Cowens and Bob McAdoo come to mind as early trend setters. Lanier had some range. Simms, Uncle Cliffy, Perkins...

McAdoo was the first guy in his size range (6-10 +) who I remember could shoot like small guys from distance. Jim McDaniel was another one. If McAdoo was playing today, he'd be a terror. He could really hit that corner shot. One of the usually overlooked great scorers from that era.

No, Walton could hit a jump shot out to the foul line, but that was about it. He had a poor grip on the ball. He put his off hand (left) directly under the ball which threw the ball off. He actually had a good touch on his bank shots from out to 12 feet, but if someone had shown him how to balance the ball correctly, he could have shot from further out. As it was, he was an excellent scorer who could have easily averaged more points (20-25) if wanted to. He was more interested in passing and a team game.
