Aaron Brooks released according to Kings commentator

Post#1 » by boogie-reke » Fri Mar 1, 2013 8:58 pm

Grant Napear ‏@GrantNapearshow

Kings have released Aaron Brooks

I assume he left money on the table to get out of the contract too so he can sign for a playoff team.

We had absolutely no need for him to begin with tbh - but this is HUGE news if legit for some playoff team out there looking for some scoring punch off the bench.

He can still score, and even though on my Kings I hated him - on a normal team - maybe the Knicks? Pacers? - he can really come in and contribute off the bench come playoff time and give them a real boost.

Not Pacers. No need to bring in ANOTHER guard. And DJ takes most of the backup PG minutes. Wouldn't be worth paying him.

He's probably better than Augustin.

Not sure how this works though, is he free to sign with whatever team he wants after he's released? (assuming the report is legit)

If I was a Houston or Jazz fan, I would hate to see the Lakers get him

We don't have roster space for one, and two Patrick Beverly has been pretty good.

WTF happened to this guy? Wasn't he MIP scoring 20-something ppg for Houston just before the lockout?

Playoff teams should know how much skill he has. He'd start for Boston and Miami, OKC could nab him as a great backup as well. Screw Derek Fisher.

Aaron Brooks was a good, almost borderline great offensive PG, back in the days for the Rox. I remember him single handily tearing the Lakers apart.

What happened?

Every PG tore the Lakers apart... As a measuring stick, that leaves something to be desired. :D

Now the Lakers could really use him.

I honestly think he's still quite a good player if placed in the right situation.

Due to the Kings already selfish ball-hogging brand, and having a ridiculous amount of me-first guards he's been made the scapegoat as if we use someone it might aswell be Zeke 2.0 and Jimmer - but I thought that in terms of creating his own offense and scoring the basketball he did a very solid job in his minutes.

On a real team without a dysfunctional offense he can really be a great 6th man scoring punch still.

He's great at creating his own offense be it from the PNR or in ISO (became much more solid inside the paint I thought with us with his floaters and runners) - and he is still an elite spot up shooter in this league.

Godawful defender though, granted. But again in the proper situation he can really excel and be a legit x-factor imo for a playoff team.
