The over-moderating of this site has gotten ridiculous, if you agree, take your talents to www.reddit.com/r/nba

That would be hilarious At least LA can say they got exactly what they wanted if they failed in free agency.

However, he has to clear waivers first. If someone claims him, Memphis will have gotten cash for nothing. Not bad.

I would love to sogn him on the Heat.... His problem is his motor... He seems to not give a dam...
Maybe being with living lengends might help him and someone like Alonzo Mourning montoring him....
I dont expect Oden to last the full season and Melo should be our project center

I'll never understand this level of venom aimed at players.
But, yes, Melo is not even a 3rd-string big. All he's got going for him is his size.

My guess is they thought he might be a diamond in the rough but when in practice quickly realized their mistake and decided to eat the cost and open the roster spot.

Considering what happened (1 year in the NBA and waived as a 1st rounder) I'd say I believe them. Authentic 7 footers with good shot-blocking skills don't get waived that easily, even if they're raw.
(If all this is true) it still blows my mind how someone can throw away an opportunity like this .
They love the game or are just in it for the money (either reason is ok I guess), you are able to play in the NBA, all you need to do is work out which is something you've been doing your whole life and you get paid a lot of money for it. How hard can it be?
I don't get these guys.

I remember reading an article a while back about how some people get lazier when presented with a big opportunity. They attribute it to fear of success. I guess if you succeed then you will have more to lose, which scares some people.
Could be the case with Melo, or maybe he's just plain lazy.

It's like a neighbor pays you money to take a 1 year old 60" flat screen tv, but because you don't like the brand, you pocket the cash and throw the tv in the trash.

Suprisingly?
He's raw as unholy hell. What separates him from your average 7 foot stiff?
I don't see much of a future for him at all in the NBA, at least not now. If word of his sour attitude, poor work ethic, and lack of Bball IQ reach other FO's, he's done.

There are a lot of 7 ft stiffs with jobs right now. Melo is still young and has potential. Some team will take a flyer on him.
