Pacers' David West: "Nobody's Afraid Of Us"

Probably not the kind of thing you want to hear one of your leaders say at this point in the season, but David West isn't worried about hurting feelings, apparently.

"We can't get teams under control," West said. "Nobody's afraid of us and we got to regroup. We got to get back to the basics. We got tough two-game trip out West and it's got to mean something to us to go out and do whatever we have to do to win these games."

I don't watch the Pacers much so I can't comment on what is going on with them right now. But David West doesn't seem very happy and I can understand why.

West also added this:

After Tuesday night's loss, West repeated "It's time, you know, it's just time." Meaning that the Pacers better ramp up for the final push into the playoffs.
Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy
Best Canadian: Nash or SGA?

On the contrary it's exactly the type of thing I want to hear one of my leaders say when his team is underperforming.

It's a good point. What I should have said is that it might not be the kind of thing you want one of your leaders to HAVE to say at this point in the season.

They're are a little bit young.. but yes.. usually for the veteran contending type teams after the all star break is pretty much the time to start to turn it up.

That's a fair point.

As a fan of the NBA, I love it. We've got 4 teams within 1 game in the loss column (OKC, IND, MIA, SAS) of each other for the top spot. Should be a fun finish to the regular season.

It's easier said than done. Let's say you go all-out to try to win the next 20 games to try to get an extra home game, which to me, doesn't seem to be much of an advantage this season. On the other hand, you lose just a key bench player, and you have to play without him for 7 games(14 if you go further), is that even a good tradeoff? The chances of injuries are just too high to try to "do whatever it takes" to win these regular season games.

Let Lebron and Durant's teams go all-out for the MVP. The Pacers should just sit back and see what happens.

their offense is questionable at times so they depend on being locked in defensively.

I think you make some good points here. You don't want to be burnt out or maxed out for the playoffs. I think that may have been an issue for recent Bulls teams.

On the other hand, the Pacers want home court over Miami. So it's a delicate balancing act.

Good point. Which means you have to bring a lot of intensity each night, or else that defense can slip.

It reminds me of the Heat defense. It can be just terrible when they don't have the will or energy to close on perimeter shooters and/or recover to guard their men or their "zone" on defense. So in one particular game, you can get anything from a Heat "no show" on defense to Game 7 of the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals level of defensive intensity.

The difference for the Heat, though, is they can fall back on their offense more easily than can Indiana.

The Pacers need homecourt. They will not beat Miami in a 7 game series without it......
I'm so tired of the typical......

May not beat them with it either. I do wonder though how big of a blow it would be to their confidence if they end up 2 seed. Miami has seemed pretty indifferent about landing #1 but they just might get it again.

I'm sorry, but that phrase by West imo is one of the pacer's problems: they shouldn't worry about whether the other team is afraid of them or not, they should worry about executing their gameplan.

Everyone crowned them early in the year when they had a very easy schedule.
Now they have shown who they really are.

I think this MVP race will be a bad thing for MIA and OKC, LeBron and KD should'nt be playing 38-40 mins with 20 games left on the schedule. these teams can win on the road, they should'nt be THAT WORRIED about HCA.

HCA is overrated in the playoffs.

Fact is, Indy just isn't good enough to beat Miami in a 7 game series they way they look now

Nah, Lebron will definitely sit out some games for rest towards the end of the season win or lose, a 3peat is in quest. Not sure about KD, but he's a young gun though so he'll probably be alright.

Miami is a dream match-up for them. they have a chance against the Heat. but they will lose to Thunder/SAS/CLP or whatever team that wins the West.

Lmao even if the Clips do make the finals (I doubt it) we won't be losing to them.

You can laugh as much as you want. but that's my opinion. they have no offense what so ever. they are not going to score enough pts against SAS/Thunder. again, my opinion.
