Gasol was going to the Heat if Lebron stayed?

Post#1 » by mademan » Mon Sep 15, 2014 11:12 pm

Le batard said this on the radio. Any truth to it? Would Miami have been better than the Cavs are now?

Who knows but I don't see how adding 34 year old Gasol to the same Miami core would make much difference looking ahead. If you're asking if they would have been better for a season, then sure that's not unreasonable to think as they were likely to have another run at it, but was it enticing enough to lock Lebron up for another contract? Obviously not so that should be an answer in itself.

So what stopped him from going to Cleveland?

I don't believe that he would have been better off staying if Gasol came here. He did the right thing by jumping ship for more help.

This texting happened before the draft, Pau didnt want to pass up the opportunity to play with Doug McBuckets.

The Heatles could have taken less money to fit in Pau depending what he wanted. Of course James could have done so as well in Cleveland, but he seemed pretty dead set on not slumming for less than the max on this contract.

I'm pretty sure he was "considering" it, which is now of course going to be reported as Pau had his bags packed before Lebron personally burned them!!.

Who knows what would have happened had Lebron stayed. No matter what, no big FA was signing ink before Lebron did, so it doesn't really matter.

That would have been interesting if they actually changed their system where the PF & C play out by the 3 point line to fit in Gasol's low post skills.

But even beyond homerism for Chicago, I'm glad Gasol went to a team that will heavily use him. On Chicago, until Rose works himself back to form (which will take a long time, beyond his season IMO) Gasol will probably be the #1 option on offense and still have a shot at a conference Finals.

That's not a situation he'd find on many teams in the league.

Is this 2008 that Pau Gasol is considered a game changer?

Bosh was reportedly willing to take a large(ish) paycut if Lebron stayed. Wade too maybe

Large enough to have 5-7m remaining for Pau?

Doubt it.
