Tony Parker suggests reducing preseason to spread season out

Post#1 » by litex » Sun Oct 19, 2014 11:44 pm

http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnatio ... preseason/

He thinks if you cut the number of preseason games in half, then spread the season across those two extra weeks that would allow for more days off during the season and fewer back to backs.

Thoughts?

Certainly seems preferable to reducing game length or number of games in a season. It would decrease revenue a bit, but improve the quality of the product by reducing the number of back to backs.

Its probably the most logical and "fair" thing to do....so I'm thinking it probably won't happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the preseason is entirely the prerogative for the teams, they can choose to schedule as few games as the want but no more than 8.

Agree with Parker. Preseason should be limited to 5 games for all teams. Lots of time to tinker with lineups etc. during regular season.

But then how will Silver make bank if he gets to schedule less games in China?

I'd take it further and move the finals to July and give teams more rest in between games during the season.

If you're the Spurs yeah or in the eastern conference yeah. But if you're the Pelicans Nuggets Suns ect ect. Come the first game season you need to now what you're doing/running. If not come April you'll win 50 games and not make the playoffs..Basically the teams above can't afford to "tinker" games. The 8th seed(western conference) might come down to one or two games between two teams or more teams...

I agree with Parker, but I want the preseason to be cut to 3 good games.

I like it how it is, in terms of game frequency.
I want a few games on every night,
Don't care about player fatigue AT all.
You making millions, don't sign the contract then xD damn unions....
It's just for my entertainment.
Though the length of the season might be too long.
Hard to keep some people's interest.
I wouldn't mind it they cut out preseason all together, move the season up a month or two, so the finals end in early May. Doesn't conflict with uni finals hahah

I'd scrap the preseason all together.

If they want preseason tune ups--- line them up yourself... otherwise who cares.

This is honestly a really great solution.

Nobody really wants to watch preseasons games and if they players need extra time maybe they can start training camp a week or so earlier.

What if the Nba had a 3 week gap between the regular season and playoffs to let those teams rest their stars, that way during the end of the regular season the top teams don't rest their players as often and we the fans get a better product for the regular season and the playoffs.

It could just work . . . . better basketball in Mid-October for everyone?

6 games in the preseason, cut two games. Have to give teams a chance to finish with a .500 record like with an 82 game season. Less back to backs would help teams to.

Sure, why not?

Only thing is it might lead to some sloppy early regular season basketball as teams wouldn't have much time to get their offensive and defensive schemes in place before the game counted. But amongst all the flat stupid and whiny suggestions on this topic, this is at least a reasonable one.

He's spot on right here. This could greatly reduce the number of back-to-backs and improve the quality of the regular season.

Sounds good to me

8 preseason games really drag on...

Teams don't even go all out either besides coaches tinkering with line ups and showcasing players.
