I'm pretty sure no Piston's fan has ever said that...

 I specifically remember a thread over the summer of Pistons fans arguing that Drummond was going to be more dominant than Davis, they wouldn't trade Drummond for Davis etc

I remember some big drummond homers saying something along those lines after rookie season, but last summer after AD's monster 2nd year? I find it hard to believe tbh

Basketball Novice: I don't think Anthony Davis can win MVP this year.

Basketball Expert: Oh I totally do.

Basketball Novice: Really? Why?

Basketball Expert: Somebody made a youtube mix tape of him making some awesome plays and stuff.

Basketball Novice: Oh.

Completely irrelevant to the MVP award.

Some of David Robinson's ENTIRE seasons (not starts):
'94: 29.8 ppg 10.7 rpg 4.8 apg 1.7 spg 3.3 bpg -- no MVP
'92: 23.2 ppg 12.2 rpg 2.7 apg 2.3 spg 4.5 bpg -- no MVP
'91: 25.6 ppg 13.0 rpg 2.5 apg 1.5 spg 3.9 bpg -- no MVP

The award simply needs to be renamed what it really is Most Winning Player award. The W-L stat dominates all other stats including PPG RPG and PER.

And the Pelicans are a game over .500 right now.

If they're a solid high seeded playoff team, Davis will easily have the award though.

Pelicans with 55 wins would be enough for serious MVP considerations
60 wins and it's a guarantee

AD is having a Hakeem/Wilt type season. The kid is simply phenomenal and may have a lock on the title of best two way player in the league.

It's clearly not his fault that the Pelicans aren't a better team, but as history has shown, you need to be a top 5 team in this league to even be seriously considered as an MVP in this league.

People are going ga-ga over his extremely impressive stats, but there have been plenty of players in past history who have posted fantastic seasons in terms of numbers but weren't the MVP because their teams just weren't good enough. And I think for the MVP award more than any other award, it's rightfully connected to your teams success.
Why so serious?

Too bad its difficult to quantify what a team would be without a player. With Davis, Pelicans are a 500 team. Without him they are a basically a bottom 5 team. That's how valuable he is to them.

If you play well and your team sucks? It's not that precious.

According to your logic, Tim Duncan doesn't deserve any respect.

Someone seems to totally forget that AD's stats blow everyone's out of the water.

4th in scoring
3rd in rebounding
1st in steals
1st in blocks
