The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
After 6 years not playing playoffs, finally Love plays for a ''good'' team . And he is proving that he is not better than Antawn Jamison.
Jamison was great, with super stats in depleted Warriors teams, but then his stats never translated to good team performances.
To be honest, I think Jamison was a way better player than Love, his tenure in Washington was impressive.
And yes I know that Love can give you a lot of empty rebound, the kind of rebounds that if you dont get someone else on your team does.

When I saw the headline “Boozer named to Olympic Hoops Team,” I thought Vin Baker was headed to Athens.

I agree somewhat, I never had Love as a superstar or a player that can carry a team despite his stats. I do think it’s too early to make a call on him in Cleveland just yet. It will take time to adjust to new teammates, new coach and playing a different role.

Re: The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
I think people underestimate fit. Gay is a perfect example. He was put in an environment that wasn't going to maximize his talents in Toronto, around teammates he didn't have chemistry with, coaching that didn't understand his game or have him in his spots, and around other players that didn't really him in his wheel house. It didn't work out and people still crap on him for it.
Love was great in Minnesota and may just be in an environment that doesn't maximize his potential. I feel for him, because I know he was just driven by the desire to win going to Cleveland and probably couldn't have anticipated how tough it was going to be with other offensive talents when there is only one rock. Hopefully it ends well for him

This reaction, reminds me of this:

Again, you may be right, but it's way too early to make that judgement. I will say that Love's lack of intangibles (outside of the boxscore) is a bit disconcerting. But I will reserve judgement for a little longer.

At some point in the season, the Cavs are going to have to realize that they need to be running more offense through Love. You don't give a guy a 5yr max contract ( which they will offer him next offseason) to be a garbage man. He should be the 1st /2nd option on a nightly basis with more plays run for him. Only a matter of time before he starts complaining about touches.
Granted that doesn't address their defensive woes.. Love is hopeless on D.

Re: The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
Was anyone really surprised his stats would take a nosedive going from Minny to Cleveland?
The only part of his game that hasn't changed is his 3 point shooting, which was expected.
Even if this is what we can expect from Love on a talented team, 17 & 10, that's very valuable.
The only red flag about Love IMO is his horrible FG% (39% for a big man) and he still has a tendency when the shot goes up to turn around and chase the board instead of contest. It's very Boozer-esque.
The forgotten story about all this is that GS is totally validated in not throwing in Klay Thompson for Love. Everyone was calling GS idiots for not including Thompson, but the way both players are playing on actual contender teams, Klay looks like the far better player on both ends.

Pretty sure his best two individual seasons (coming off the bench for the 2003-04 Mavericks, and making the All-Star team with the 2007-08 Wizards), his team made the playoffs too.
He just wasn't the type of guy that you have as your #1 guy, and neither is Love it seems.
People also overlook the fact that Minnesota have been one of the highest-paced teams in the NBA for the entirety of Love's career. Can significantly change both your statistical output and your overall game.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Re: The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
did you know that Antawn played with LeBron? 25 games in 2010 avging 15.8/7.7/1.3 then 15.3/7.4/1.3 in 11 games of playoffs. 1.3 is assists.
K love is avging 17.4/10.3/2.3 this season, far cry from last year, but it's clear who the better player is, this is ridiculous.

Re: The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
People are probably sick of hearing this but the Cavs need a little more time to gel.
I think defensively there is a ceiling unless they make a personnel change but they should be able to beat teams with great offense.
As for Love's stats I'm sure he doesn't really care how great they look as long as they're winning.
Lastly, the Antawn comparison is not a good one. Even though I don't consider Love a "best player on a championship team" kind of guy he is definitely better than Antawn.

Are you comparing a 33 year old version of Jamison with Kevin Love in his prime? That doesn't seem fair

Jamison was a beast in his prime...
Not the most defensive player, but damaging player offensively and a factor indeed.
thats all I'm gonna say...

Love isn't good defensively. He is a big man that love to shoot 3s not exactly a winning formula to be honest and I'm not surprised he is not making much of an impact in Cleveland. They will need a Hibbert/Noah type of center to compete to be honest.

Even then, Jamison played about 4 minutes less, which makes their per 36 almost identical. And he was shooting 48% from the field.

Re: The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
This thread is absolutely ridiculous. Kevin Love is easily a better offensive player than Jamison, and even though you're burning him after 10 games on his new team where he's the 3rd offensive option as opposed to the undisputed focal point of the offense, he's still putting up 17/10 which is what most of us expected him to do.
The Cavaliers will figure it out, Love his FG% will improve, he'll be just fine.

Re: The Antawn Jamison syndrome : Kevin Love
They just haven't figured out how to utilize him yet.
He's a 1 way player who they are going to give max money to. He needs more plays called for him.
The "issue" is, Kyrie is a porous defender also. So his value comes from his scoring. If you give Love a bigger share of the offense, then Kyrie starts to look overpaid.

Never really thought of this comparison for Love... but honestly they are somewhat very similar.

...this applies to any player that plays with someone as ball dominant as Lebron. They won't be able to play their game if they have to adapt their game to fit his. Did you guys expect everyone's stats to stay the same?
