This. No one can deny that Kyrie is extremely talented and an amazing offensive player. But Kyrie still needs to prove that he can help his side defensively.

Meanwhile, players like Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard and Klay Thompson are very good on both ends of the court. There is a lot of value in being a two-way player and that's why I would pick those 3 over Kyrie right now.

I don't really care about the rest, just so long as I get to take Chukwudiebere Maduabum #1.

From my count there is 6 players from the 1st not on NBA rosters including 3 straight picks towards the end of the round.

I wonder how this draft ranks compared to normal with 1st rounders?

Wasn't JaJuan Johnson one of the first 1st round picks to ever be waived on a rookie deal or something?

Just 5 actually. 5 out of 30. Ernie would have done better being blind folded and picking a name out of a hat!! :banghead:

Hmmmm I got....

Vesely
Singleton
Nolan Smith
MarShon Brooks
Jordan Hamilton
JaJuan Johnson

All out of the league? Is one of those 6 still on a list somewhere?

Wizards draft was definitely a clusterf***, which is easily enough said in hindsight.

Vesely was always a reach but Singleton was seen as a Metta World Peace clone of sorts, never had the size to play the 4 or the speed to play the 3 in the L though. Hard to know how that translates from college to NBA though..

For the record, my list, trying to base around need.

1. Cavs - Irving
2. Min - Leonard
3. Utah - K Thompson
4. Cle - Valanciunas
5. Tor - Vucevic
6. Was - Butler
7. Sac - Faried
8. Det - Parsons
9. Cha - Walker
10. Mil - Harris
11. GSW - Burks
12. Utah - Morris
13. Pho - T Thompson
14. Hou - R Jackson

Isn't Jordan Hamilton on the jazz?

They picked him up off waivers, but then cut him not too long after.

Damn looking at this draft, lots of scouts messed up. There might be more collective talent at 11-20 than at 1-10.

Very subjective re-do rankings and I guess I'm being naive expecting any objectivity.

Personally, disregarding team needs, I would draft in this order:

Vucevic
Kawhi
Kyrie
Val
Thompson

Don't care about the rest.

and here is a piece from a Washington paper after the draft lol

"the Wizards’ second selection, Singleton, said he was going to celebrate by cussing at the teams that passed on him. One of the 15 players invited to sit in the green room with family and friends, Singleton was projected to possibly go as high as ninth to Charlotte, but was the last player waiting when the Wizards called his name. “I’m going to mark off the teams, cuss them out, in my own words and take it from there,” he said. “You never want to be the last one in anything. But I feel like I’m in the right position right now. I’m happy.”

I wouldn’t have said it prior to this season but I would take Jimmy Butler. Fantastic defender and has shown he can score 15-20 on any given night. After him it would probably be Leonard or Klay.

People are really high on Vucevic. I understand the hype- he's a great prospect who is putting up big numbers. He's a great rebounder and has lots of skill on the block. He's developed his shot as well. With that said, he frankly plays on a bad team and I think that has to be accounted for. Also it's very early in the season and his numbers could very well come back down to earth. Jonas Valanciunas (despite not putting up the numbers) is the starting center on a 50 win team. That should count for something too.

This big-men crop is solid and I think Valanciunas and Kanter are still a few years away from being finished products (Vucevic too, but they are a bit younger). At this point, these three guys will probably improve the most out the whole class.

Kyrie has had his growing pains (and injuries) but he's easily the most talented in the draft. Kawai, Klay, and Butler are all great two way players but aren't well-rounded offensively. Like Vucevic, I'm not convinced Butler will bkeep up his scoring the whole season.

Not accounting for need:
1. Kyrie
2. Kawai
3. Klay
4. Vucevic
5. Valanciunas
6. Butler
7. Kanter
Parsons/Walker/Faried/Morris/Harris

People need to cool it with the Vucevic love in.

Yes, he is a good inside scorer and a good rebounder (but let's also remember he is on a very poor team currently). But the fact remains he is a below average defender and offers little to no rim protection.

Defense and rim protection is the one biggest quality that is important in a Center - Without it, it is difficult to find a PF that you can pair up with a low post C with and be successful.

I still wouldn't take him top 8 in a redraft, possibly not even top 10 as he is simply so hard to build around.

I'd take Kemba, TT, and RJ over Markieff Morris.

Kanter was the youngest player in that draft as he just turned 22 this summer, and has been playing really well as of late. I'm surprised he's not on a few lists. He has a PER of 18 and this year since incorporating the 3 pointer is shooting 36% from three in November.
