Because Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, Ryan Anderson and Omer Asik would be such an awful group? Come on now. How many teams could you take the best player away from and still lineup so competitive?

That team would be maxed out at maybe a 1st round exit in the West. I just didn't agree with those acquisitions, Asik and Anderson are solid, the backcourt though is terrible in terms of fit, also drafting Austin Rivers. Just saying that if you replaced Davis with whatever mediocre player they would have drafted in their regular draft spot (they're not the best drafters) the team would be treading water, going nowhere fast.

Hmm getting the #1 pick when the NBA was coincidentally trying like hell to sell the franchise... sounds like the same kind of "luck" the Cavs have been getting in the lottery

Everyone knew he was a terrible contract that would constantly be injured. Not surprising at all. What the hell was NO thinking when they matched that Phoenix offer? It didn't even make sense then and looks awful right now

This is what we call "hindsight bias", children.

Considering he's only played more than 64 games once in his career and excluding his rookie season he played 62, 56, 9, 42, and 64 games in the next 5 seasons...I wouldn't call it "hindsight bias" and I'm pretty sure we can call him injury prone. In fact we could even call it stating the obvious :-?

The NBA sold the Pelicans to Tom Benson already like a month & a half before that NBA Lottery.
Though it wouldn't surprise me if there was a wink-wink agreement for the purchase.

I think if anything his career would be very different right now with the Suns medical staff.

Really no need to keep beating a dead horse.

- Yes, EG shouldn't have been matched.
- Yes, EG is injury prone.
- Yes, we should have traded EG when his value was it's highest.

How about we just wish him a speedy recovery and focus on the Pelican players still able to contribute?

If EG has re-taught me anything, it's not to take great players for granted and just assume things will always unfold like they seem assured to. I know he wasn't exactly a superstar yet at the time, but he looked poised to become a potential top 10-15 player back in 2010, and while he was always a little injury prone, I never would have imagined what would unfold over the next four years.

I hate seeing potential greatness lost due to injury or other circumstances, but it's just unavoidable. That's why I tend to favor longevity more than I do peak performance when trying to determine a player's career value/rank.

It would have been better for both EG and the Pelicans if they just let him go to Phoenix.

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that guard Eric Gordon will be out indefinitely with a left shoulder injury. An MRI revealed Gordon suffered a torn labrum as a result of the left shoulder subluxation injury that occurred Saturday night at Utah.

Gordon will undergo further evaluation throughout this week by the team's medical staff to determine the best course of action moving forward. More details will be released as they become available.
