If you've watched him you now that in practice he actually has one talent: being big and athletic enough to charge to the basket and force something. He's a weak facilitator--no vision in the half court--and just not a good offensive player overall. There also seems to be a myth he's good on D (I guess because of high steal and d reb rates), but he's a bad team defender and has trouble staying in front of guys. He needs to fix a lot of habits and get some serious coaching before he's a versatile threat and do more than race out in transition.

As the numbers show, Smith and Canaan shoot less, shoot a little better, and tunr the ball over less. More importantly, both guys (especially Ish) make the guys around them better and more confident. Canaan spreads the floor really well and probes the defense, and Ish is great at finding his guys. He's been a big reason why Nerlens Noel's offense has picked up of late, and he's clearly helped raise the confidence of some of the younger guys.
Even if it's too close tot ell, that's the whole point: these guys aren't even good. They're just decent players who know how to play but aren't great at it, and it's not a good sign when replacement level players look at least as good as you on the court.
