Could Lebron carry the Knicks to the NBA finals?

Post#1 » by Nyphantom » Sat May 23, 2015 3:12 am

Kenny Smith with the golden quote "I didn't know Lebron James could take the Knicks to the NBA finals". If you swap Melo with Lebron and assume he still has JR and Shumpert, do they reach the finals?

No, it's the New York Knicks. And having Lou Amundson and Langston Galloways as your starters doesn't help.

I don't see anyone that can replace TT and what he's done for the Cavs this year. The closest thing the Knicks have is Lou Amundson, right?

Yeah, good luck with that.

True. But LeBron can be TT for the Knicks if he has to be.

Mozgov too (traded for Melo and would have been on the Knicks if LeBron just signed there instead of being in NY).

In 2010 the starting lineup would have been:
Mozgov
Gallinari
LeBron
Chandler
Felton

Eddy Curry ruined it all...
Go Knicks!

As amazing as he is, I don't think even LeBron James could take that NY supporting cast to the Finals...he's not a time machine.

No way. Cavs without their superstars are still far better than the Knicks. He might get them to the playoffs and get swept first round

Knicks will make the East Finals next year

Mudiay
Kris middleton
Melo
Monroe
Ajinca

Dorrell Wright and/or Seraphin will be great coming off bench

Gonna be crazy fun

Sad to say that might make the playoffs in the east but far from enough to win.
Matthews may not be the same after his ACL, Mudiay has to learn the NBA than learn the triangle which will take years. Monroe has no playoff experience and Ajinca might not be enough to start

LeBron James is a great player, but he's no miracle worker. At the same time, the Knicks do need Jesus Christ and LeBron James is the closest thing Knicks fan will get to Jesus Christ.

I'm not saying he could for sure but compare the records of the 2009-2010 Cavs to the 2010-2011 Cavs. You went from a 60+ win team to a 60+ loss team. LeBron's impact there was historically dramatic.

I'm going to use the team before Amare's waiving and the Shumpert/Smith trade

Calderon/Larkin
Shumpert/Smith/Hardaway
LeBron/Early
Amare/Bargnani/Acy
Dalembert/Aldrich

I mean it's not that bad. Massive concern at rim protecting, but LeBron could revitalise Amare's offense and we've seen how good Shumpert and Smith are with LeBron. Bargnani can be the homeless man's Love (bankrupt version) in some lineups, and Calderon can knock down some three's letting LeBron play point forward. In the East, maybe 49 wins assuming LeBron is healthy, so 4th seed.

he would take the amare, shumpert, healthy calderon, jr smith bunch to the final granted he gets a decent rim protector like mozgov. not the knicks team that finished the season though, not even jesus can help them.

Yeah but a bunch of people left/retired/got hurt after LBJ went to the Heat. It just wasn't the same team at all. Delonte West went crazy and was let go. Shaq retired. Wally Sczerbiak retired. Big Z went to the Heat. Verajao got injured. We ended up trading Mo Williams for Baron Davis (who was injured) during the season.

If thats the case, you are leaving out Carmelo. And to answer the OP's question, no.

Yeah, I did? I agree that they probably don't get past a team with a good frontcourt, they might even lose to the Wizards in round 1 assuming standings stay the same. But that's definitely a legit east contender.
