Derrick Williams Free Agency

Post#1 » by vanhill » Tue Jun 30, 2015 9:27 pm

Height: 6-8 â–ª Weight: 241 lbs. 24 years old
Former 2nd pick in the draft where many people feel that he is a bust. He is only 24 years old and his game becomes much more polished after spending 4 years in the league. He constantly attacks the rim and his 3point shots are improving. He shoots 44% last year and it was the best in his career.
He is strong , athletic , able to beat defenders with his quickness and have a good mid-range game. Could he be a steal in the free agency this year?

I do genuinely have the feeling hw could be salvaged in the right system. I just don't know which system!

If he develops his three and learns when to use either his strength or his athleticism/relative quickness he could be very useful

He got all the tools to be a special player, hopefully Raps or some other teams could give him some minutes..
potential breakout season for him if he is given the opportunity

I am pissed that he didn't work out with my Wolves but still think he has potential in this league as a player. He'll never live up to the 2nd pick billing but if he get his head in the game and goes to the right team i.e. a team with a winning culture, strong wild headcoach and a proven all star I think he would fit in.

A team like the Spurs or more so the Clippers I think would be a perfect fit.Coming off the bench as a 6th/7th man and doing work.Clippers badly need and upgrade at back up PF and Williams is clearly better then big baby and has a much higher upside. You would have Doc,Paul,Griffin and if he returns Jordan all their to help him along.

I feel that he is more of a SF than PF. He is quicker and stronger than an average SF , his dunks and his frame (6'8",240lbs) reminds me of a "Poor Lebron". He has the NBA starter potential and deserve to have another chance to prove himself.

Out of those teams I like the Knicks best. He would get playing time while Porzingis gets up to par.

GSW doesnt have the minutes for him, he can only play behind Barnes and Iguodala...
Lakers ,Suns or the Raps might be a good fit for him.

With Melo starting at SF..he will need to play at 4? Not sure if this is the best for him..

Sorry. I assumed Porzingis would play PF with Monroe at C. That's how I'd play them (assuming they get Monroe).

Greg Monroe is a center. That's why Detroit doesn't want him back. Playing Monroe at PF (starting) diminishes his style of play a bit.

Where do you guys see him in the future? Losing some weight while improving his 3P shot (maybe up to 35%)and become a SF or become a stretch 4 while working on his shot?

He's a guy that I think the Lakers could actually get. What's the downside in taking a flyer on a athletic SF with potential? Who would start ahead of him (other than if Kobe plays the 3)? Wes Johnson or Anthony Brown?

I would want him to be a SF with a combination of Speed & Strength. This is something that makes him special. I agree with you on improving his shot, that will make him a threat for both from the downtown and in the paint.
