$10 million per year honestly isn't that bad after all these other FA signings. And Shump is a starter not a bench player. Keep in mind, he's still young. Heck, Arron Afflalo might get $12 million per year.

i would, uh, pretty quickly spend $2 million extra to upgrade from shumpert to afflalo

Afflalo turns 30 before next season starts. Besides, Shumpert to Afflalo is not an upgrade. Shumpert is easily better and I'm curious why you would think otherwise.

This is not a bad move. Shumpert is good defensively and can hit the 3. Its what the Cavs need. This is only bad if they also try to re-sign JR Smith.
