Woj: Ed Davis Agrees To 3yr/20 Million With Blazers

Free-agent forward Ed Davis has reached agreement on a three-year, $20 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Davis' agreement allows the Blazers to maintain flexibility on still re-signing All-Star free agent LaMarcus Aldridge and starting center Robin Lopez.

The Blazers still have a team option of $5 million on center Chris Kaman's contract that it could waive to clear space.

If Aldridge leaves in free agency, Davis gives them a power forward to move into the starting lineup. With Aldridge, he becomes a significant rotation player on a contending team. The Blazers plan has been to try to re-sign Lopez, should Aldridge decide to return to Portland.

Davis' deal continues a reshaping of the Blazers roster that includes adding Brooklyn Nets center Mason Plumlee, young Charlotte Hornets forward Noah Vonleh and guard Gerald Henderson. General manager Neil Olshey is walking the delicate line between preparing for a rebuild without Aldridge, or moving directly back into contention with Aldridge returning to anchor the team.

That's a solid deal in this market. If the Lakers turnaround and give a bigger contract to Jordan Hill, I'd lose my mind.

Good for Ed, he deserves to get paid after taking a huge pay cut to showcase himself last year. I don't think there was any doubt that he was going to the highest bidder this off-season. He needs to recoup the lost earnings from his 1 year showcase gamble.

Very good signing by the Blazers, A. I have no idea what Lakers are thinking letting this guy walk out the door especially with a cheap contract like this. One of the most improved players last year in the league.

Great deal for the Blazers, Ed Davis is a solid player aside from his FT shooting.

Good player to give 25 min a night for 2/3 years while Vonleh develops. Assuming LA is gone of course. I like it for what it is.

I'm pretty upset that we didn't offer the same amount/more for him.

Just when you think our offseason can't get any worse... Davis was by FAR our best big man last season

Great deal for the Blazers. Lakers FO continues to drop the ball. Bozos.

Wow, starting to question the Lakers' sanity.

3 years $20 Million??? An average of LESS than $7 Million per? With the new cap next season, that's the equivalent of around $5 Million per season in today's cap.

Best signing of FA yet IMO. An absolute steal.

How do the Lakers let him walk for that?

That was my thought as well. They're fairly similar players, no?

I'm okay with this deal assuming our team is rebuilding, but Portland badly needs more playmaking still, and with or without Aldridge is going to have a jammed frontcourt. Only two respectable ballhandlers on the whole roster right now.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking contract even without options. However I'm just trying to figure out how this makes sense for them. Unless they know something we don't and Aldridge is staying this doesn't really seem like an ideal signing. If they have to rebuild why not just play Vonleh/Leonard/Plumlee more?

Nothing has been confirmed about Hill and the Lakers. A deal hasn't even surfaced as far as I know so I wouldn't worry yet.
