Blatt is lucky not because he's terrible, but because his first HC job in the NBA came for a team that has a roster of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and solid role players.

The same applies to Steve Kerr as well even though I give him more credit for utilizing Draymond Green the way he did.

I think Gentry did that. But you never know...

Starts and ends with Phil Jackson. Gets MJ/Pippen then Kobe/Shaq. I don't care how good he was as a coach, those guys would have won anybody at least 2 rings each.

Let's be real, how much on court strategy is there with MJ or Shaq? Two of the most dominant players to ever play the game, they don't need plays drawn up for them, they just do what they do. Everybody has to adjust to them and usually there's nothing you can do about them.

He coached the Heat pre-Lebron arrival. And had good winning% too.

No Paul Westphal?

Luckiest coach ever. Bring him in as a rookie coach, trade for Barkley, with an already established veteran bench, and the team basically ran itself.

Seriously, this team didnt need a head coach.

Charles Barkley
Dan Majerle
Tom Chambers
Frank Johnson
Danny Ainge
Kevin Johnson
Mark West
Kurt Rambis
Tim Kempton

All of these players went on to have successful careers off the court. 4x coaches, 3x broadcasters, 1x GM, 1x Mayor. All of these player were on the court coaches, and Westphal didnt need to do anything....and it showed.

3 years as suns coach - .720 winning percentage from 92-95
7 years after - .400 winning percentage after.

Doc Rivers tenure with the Clippers is proving his Celtics run was pretty lucky. We will see what he is worth as a head coach this year.

Phil Jackson always seem to land in the right place s at the right time, and then leave at the right.

Gotta go with Blatt. Year 1 with LBJ, Irving and Love. On top of that, he had Lebron mainly coaching.

Kerr, Spol, Phil...sure their all lucky in the sense they've all coached in good situation with top talent. Lets just ake sure we don't discredit them. its like talent, it only goes so far unless you work at it.

Phil Jackson(still a good coach), Doc Rivers, Steve Kerr (hes still a good coach), Erik Spolstra, Mark Jackson(even tho he was fired he was still lucky to coach that team and start his coaching career with the record he has) Byron Scott( lucky to ever receive a coaching gig) Jocque Vaughn(see Byron Scott)

and Jay Triano (who ONLY got a coaching gig because he was a Canadian working with the Raptors, realistically he probably would never has sniffed that opportunity if it wasnt for his Canadian status)

Kerr was lucky to have played under both Phil and Pop and with Jordan/Pippen/Rodman/Kukoc and then Duncan/Robinson/Parker/Manu. It gave him unique perspectives on both the game and dealing with all kinds of egos and personalities.

But it's overblown that he got lucky with the Warriors roster. Remember, he was taking over a team that was a 7th/6th seed in years prior. A good roster for sure and made sense for him to take that over the Knicks, but he wasn't taking over the MJ/Pippen Bulls or Shaq/Kobe Lakers.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

I always say that Kerr's luck was Gentry, not the team. Team will continue to play good though since they got the system. It is like Avery Johnson could get 65+ wins cause players got the Nelson's system.

as a player, Fisher was the luckiest guy ever. Played with HOFers, was a pretty irrelevant player yet stuck on that team. Not so lucky as a coach tho

Shows how much you know...

Due to a stress fracture in his right foot, Fisher missed the first 62 games of the 2000–01 season. During his absence, the Lakers were not winning as frequently as the previous season, which led to teammates Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal rekindling their feud over the team's offense. Assistant coach Bill Bertka, however, believed a key factor in the team's struggles was the team's defense without Fisher.[8][9] Fisher returned on March 13, 2001, upgrading the Lakers' defense, and he started the final 20 games of the season, averaging 11.5 points per game. Harper had been the regular starter, but he was sidelined since February 13 with injuries to both knees.[10] The Lakers finished the regular season with an eight-game winning streak, and ended with 56 wins

That's one of many times Fisher came through for the Lakers, aside from his play and 3's versus Orlando or his performance in game 3 in the 2010 finals. Keep going though with the ignorance :D
