Two more years with the same amount of shots taken and free agents being chased away might test even the patience of Lakers fans.

tbh, i think it was TWC that wanted the lakers to keep kobe at all costs

TWC? tbh?

It'd be cool to see him go to Italy for a year or something of that nature.

You're right, they didn't strong arm the Hornets. But they were the sacrificial lamb in Arn Tellem's demand to get Kobe to LA. They had floated a rumor that Kobe would play in Italy (which was believable because many thought Kobe would take years to develop) if he didn't end up with the Lakers. Calipari wanted Kobe at 8 but didn't think Kobe would sign so thy went with Kerry Kittles.

The whole point of my post is that I wonder how Kobe's career would have progressed had he not found himself in a pretty much perfect situation from the get go.

Just to chime in and help clarify here. Kobe's agent went into agent mode after Jerry West indicated a draft promise to Kobe. It was then and only then after Jerry West told Arn that he was there guy and he ( Jerry ) will work on getting a draft pick. Prior to this Kobe worked out for many teams that had top 15 picks and the only team that was remotely interested in him was the Net's and that wasn't even a sure thing as they preferred a college player and were hesitant to take a small out of HS.

Agents dissuading teams and or propping them up happen in every sport all the time. Long before Kobe and long after Kobe.

It really started with Jerry West wanting Kobe and doing everything he could to get his player.

Kobe Bryant paved the way for players like Derrick Rose. He was a true trailblazer for the NBA.

Here it is right here short honest and to the point. All this other bs about not deserving this accolade or only being successful because of Shaq or the stacked teams argument is foolish and petty. Just give the man his props and move on.

The reason I can't say Duncan is better was bc Kobe had a better and longer peak...and Kob was more dominant and could beat you more ways than Timmy

Duncan was a great player, great teammate...but up until 2010, folks were saying Kob was the best player in the league...that conversation ended for Duncan in 06.

I truly believe Duncan and Kobe would have been a better tandem than Shaq & Kobe

How did Kobe have a longer and better prime? Duncan was all nba 1st team his rookie year. He dominated right out of the gate until 2007. Back to back regular season mvps... 3 finals mvps ext

Check Kob's 2013 #s...he was snapping til he ripped his achilles

Duncan has not been a top 10 player in 8 yrs. Kobe hasn't been a top 10 player in 2 yrs

So? That's easily balenced the fact by the fact he didnt become a top player until the end of the 3 peat. He didn't become a top player out of the gate. Tim Duncan was top 5 in mvp voting his rookie year and was a top 5-top 7 player all the way through to 2007. Not to mention in 2013 he was all NBA 1st team.

I agree with this one, 15-20 all-time is high praise to give to any basketball player.

Kobe was a top 10 player starting in fall 2000...he was a top 10 player basically through spring 2013

Duncan was a top 10 player from fall 97 to spring 07

Duncan has aged gracefully but it's more a matter of the lack of quality big men.

And no one can dispute the fact that Kobe has a winning record against Duncan in the playoffs. 2013 doesn't count bc Kobe didn't play.

Duncan is a great player but Kob was absolutely dominant from a position where only a handful of players have been consistently dominant night after night

The best difficult shot maker the league has ever seen. He took more difficult shots and made more difficult shots than anyone I can think of, including MJ and AI.
One of the best work ethics of all time.
One of the most skilled players ever who could do just about anything.
And someone whose game suffered because of his ego, his fixed mindset about being the next MJ (instead of using his unique skills fully), and his poor skills at being a teammate.

I will remember most for his feuds and poor relationships with players like Dwight and Shaq. One of my favorite moments is when Shaq told him "How my tastes?"

How will I remember Kobe? When he was 13 he was playing NBA players on the 76ers 1-on-1. Then he got into the NBA and the coach told him to shoot as much as possible, and he airballed game winning shots against the Jazz. He stayed in the gym after Shaq left every day practicing those shots that he missed. Then he won 3 championships in a row as Shaq's sidekick, wanted to be the man and shot the Lakers out of the 2004 finals. Then he went on crazy scoring runs of 50 a game and even put up 81 against the Craptors, who played zone defense when he was raining in 3's. Then his team got Pau Gasol and went to 3 finals in a row, winning 2 championships. In Kobe's last championship game he shot a bad % but still helped his team win. Then the Lakers got embarrassed by the Mavs in the playoffs, and have been a joke every since. Somewhere in between all that he cheated on his wife and got accused of rape, which make me hate him, but then later I saw a clip of all these players from the 1960s doing "Kobe Bryant moves" and Kobe talked about how much he appreciated past greats which made me like him again. Kobe is one of the most talented basketball players of all time, but he should have passed the ball more, and comparing him to Michael Jordan was always a joke.

Come on BigBennett stop it . You know you won't remember Kobe this way.

Like others have said Kobe was probably the most explosive iso scorer the game had ever seen in his prime stretch around mid 00's . Due to his tendency to chuck up shots at will regardless of how many people were defending him. Closest thing offensively we have seen to Michael Jordan when combining scoring ability and skillset. He just didn't have physical traits that Michael Jordan had, but still was probably a borderline freak of nature athlete. Not Michael Jordan good, but was definetely the uniamous best player in the NBA closer end of Mid 00's early 00's . Top 10 player of all time. No shame in that

He just wasn't Michael Jordan good, like the media ( and Laker/Kobe fans to a degree ) tried to claim he was.
OJ Mayo , Michael Jordan , Allen Iverson.
