He hasn't ruled out not having surgery and rehabbing, although he more than likely will go the surgery route.

The coach is in his contract year. He won't tank. If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's out of a job at the end of the season.

The Lakers have no reason to trade youth for Big Al. The Lakers are rebuilding for the post-Kobe era. The team will likely not make the playoffs, and they're just hoping for a healthy season to say farewell to Kobe instead of seeing him carried out on a stretcher. This is a farewell tour year with Kobe and Byron Scott and Metta World Peace. All three will likely be gone next year. Besides, they already traded for the expiring contract of Roy Hibbert to be their center, why would they want another big salary expiring big man in Big Al? Much less trade away their Post-Kobe rebuilding chips in prospects like Randle or Clarkson for it.

Tough blow for the Hornets. Probably in minority, but I still think the Hornets will make it in the playoffs and dare I say surprise some people. I think they have better players than people give them credit for and will play solid team basketball

Unfortunately it looks like New Orleans is building a core of injury prone stars.

That being said, I'm rooting for them this year to suck hard enough to earn a high draft pick, then build a dynasty around it.

Davis is probably too good for them to not have a chance at the playoffs, though, so they may finish in that terrible 9-12 spot out west.
