Can the Timberwolves make the playoffs this year?

Post#1 » by Aintnohater » Sat Nov 28, 2015 5:51 am

Wiggins looks like a star in the making, along with Karl Towns..I think theyre both playing above expectations, and their whole team as a whole is playing pretty well for a fairly young squad....So, can they make the playoffs this year?

Important part is that we're not outplaying our point differential. We should be 8-8 and we are 8-8.

I don't think we'll make it, but we've got a chance. Which is such a great sign for the future.

I don't think so but it really isn't any knock on their team.

Most likely not... But it is possible.

Assuming the Rockets get their **** together, there are two available spots for the Wolves, Mavs, Suns, and Jazz. Pellies are **** by injuries and the Kings are a borderline toxic situation.

What works for the Wolves is their depth right now. Sure the team is young but if one guy doesn't have it going then you still have options if youre Sam Mitchell. They are legitimately 14 deep if fully healthy. Every single guy can come in and contribute if called upon. If it comes down to a matter of your players staying healthy, then the Wolves have a shot.

They've also begun to start shooting threes. 9-25 tonight. They didn't shoot great but simply making the opponent respect the 3 ball opens so many things for our post ups and slashing.

I think a better question is do they have a shot of losing their pick. I'd put money on that.

I really hope so. They have my favorite roster in the league, big fan of Towns, Rubio and Wiggins.

Definitely possible.

These guys are winning by overcoming what are normally achilles heels for young teams; winning on the road in hostile environments and theyre are winning the close games. The team has some cagey vets, but more often than not its been the kids (wiggins and towns) shutting the door on opposing teams.

It wouldn't totally surprise me, and the painful thing about that as a Suns fan is that we would have traded that top 12 protected pick (that turns in to two second rounders next year) would go to Boston for a half year rental of Brandan Wright. That would be more painful to me than giving up the Lakers pick for Brandon Knight, even if Philly gets the 4th pick. Sure, some say the Suns could have signed him as a FA, but not matching with a rising cap, knowing he has that much value to the Suns, means you can likely get the same return later, if only from the Suns.

I don't think they will make it but they are definitely a chance, especially if the Rockets don't get it together and every game they play it looks less likely that they will.

definitely locked:
gsw
spurs
okc
grizzlies

most likely locked:
dallas
clippers

so for the last two spots they ll have to compete with utah, suns, pelicans, and rockets.
Verdict: most likely they will not as pelicans and rockets might bounce back and utah and suns are better teams than wolves.

If Rubio can stay healthy (huge if), they are as good as Utah or the Suns. If he misses 20+ games, they wont be in playoffs. In my opinion they are a 3&D SF (Matt Barnes, Bazemore, Crowder or Batum would fit very well) from making some noise.

It's the west. Anyone has a chance. They'd have no chance in the elite east though.

exactly this. It's been great to see Towns look so good, Wiggins continue to develop, and we've always known that a healthy Rubio makes an enormous difference. But they realistically don't figure to be a top 8 team in the West over 82 games.

But so what? That's not what this year should be about.
