New York number three seed in the east ?
According to Wally Szczerbiak this is true. Then he said , maybe number four with Chicago ahead. you got to be kidding me. I saw it on MSG .

Every off season everyone overrates the Knicks. Last off season we heard how they finally got a great defensive center and a competent shooting guard and they're easily a playoff team.

Would be surprised if they made the playoffs

I must have missed that conversation because most knicks fans knew we werent going to see another playoff series in at least 2 years.

It was all over the general board last year.
Here's my take.
Rose and Noah are just ok at this point. And both are injury prone.
Courtney Lee is a solid piece.
Obviously Porky and Melo are great.
Their bench is where it all falls apart,
Jennings, Galloway, Lance Thomas, O'Quinn, Seraphin (signed?). Yikes. When the starting lineup has the potential to miss a ton of games, that is really really scary.
I'd say they'll be fighting for the 8th seed. Gonna be tough up against the Hornets, Bucks, Magic, etc.

How do you go from the 13th seed to the 3rd seed in a year? If this was 2011, I would say yes.

If everyone in that starting lineup plays up-to or slightly past expectations, it wouldn't be so farfetched. But besides Porzingis, is there anyone on that roster who's expected to improve in play next season and still not be considered a disappointment?

This is why what Phil did was smart. When you load up on name brand you get people to overrate your team and now he doesn't have to here criticism for months while banking 12 mil.

A lot of things would have to go right for that. I see them in the 7-8 seed range myself

The Cavs , Raptors and Pistons will be in the top 3. I don't know exactly where each will end up, but it's hard to see any other East squad getting that high up there.

Cavs Raptors and either the Celtics or the Pacers will be the top three imo. Knicks and pistons go fifth and sixth

Actually, Galloway went to the Pelicans and Seraphin was renounced, probably won't be coming back. Instead, we got a 26 year old Lithuanian player called Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Spain's Willy Hernangomez who was drafted in the second round last year. Not saying these guys are better, just FYI

Re: New York number three seed in the east ?
I can't see how New York would be the three seed without a bunch of fairly unlikely possibilities aligning all together. They don't project to be very good on offense and I'm not seeing them hugely improved on defense, either. Variables of note include whether or not Rose sucks again, if Melo is actually good at scoring this year and what kind of development we see from Porzingis. Then of course, what from Noah? He's played 70+ games three times in his entire career, and once in the last 7 seasons (minding the lockout was a shortened year, of course, and a year in which he only missed 2 games). He's also good for very little on offense besides passing and offensive rebounding, which wouldn't normally be trouble, save that the Knicks are riddled with inefficient scorers and injury-prone players. His defense, when healthy, is very much valuable, although again contingent on his presence on the floor.
They aren't likely to be an elite team. A playoff team isn't even guaranteed, though it seems very likely... provided that they actually have health for their players, which is also not guaranteed.
Personally, I expect Rose to miss 15+ games again, Melo to miss 10+, I'd be shocked if we saw 70 from Noah. Unless we see a major revival from Anthony or a huge step forward from KP, I'm not sure that the Knicks break into the top 12 offensive teams in the league this year, and if they're just a slightly above-average defense with a middling offense, then they probably won't win 45 games (although that would be a major step forward), and third seed in the East was 48 wins last year (actually, third through 6th). Not seeing a 16-game improvement for New York, not with this lineup.

If he can somehow turn the Knicks into an attractive free agent destination (for more than just past-their-prime dinosaurs looking for redemption), he would've done more than Isiah.

I actually think the east is a bit unpredictable. It wouldn't shock me if the Knicks somehow gel.
