Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
as an international kid growing up in the 90s,
all you heard about was MJ & the bulls, so gravitated towards the bulls naturally,
then late 2000s started watching again, after getting epsn etc etc, and naturally gravitated towards the bulls,
therefore.. bulls

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
Lived in Houston the first 26 years of my life. My dad used to take me to Astros games all the time when I was little, but I fell in love with basketball at about nine or ten. Jordan's first three-peat and the Rockets' two titles occurred when I was 10-14 years old; I was always going to love basketball, but those five years made it unlikely I'll ever stop being a Rockets/NBA fan.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
I grew up just as a casual NBA fan. I remember watching a lot of Spurs, Kings, Mavs, and Lakers. Generally though, I wasn't super obsessed with basketball. I was probably barely 9 years old when the Lakers won the first of their 3 peat.
What caught my attention for basketball was the 03-04 Minnesota Timberwolves and that great playoff story run. This was when I was finally a teenager playing basketball in school. The next season, I joined the bandwagon for the SSOL Suns and I haven't stopped rooting for them ever since.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
Even though I probably will never move back to Orlando, the Magic. Been on board since their inception and even saw Shaq on my high school track his rookie season when training camp was held at Stetson University in Deland, FL. Ran into Jeff Turner a few times when he was broadcasting in Houston, too.
Despite not living in FL for 18 years and buying them after I moved out of state, I still have kept my FSU and Tampa Bucs season tickets. There are just too many NBA games to deal with living so far, so I never got Magic season tickets.
Lived in Houston for 9 years prior to moving San Diego last year and had Rockets season tickets for 3 seasons, but gave them up when I had to move. In any case, I considered Houston and the Gulf Coast home now and plan on moving back when the military gig is up. Even though my favorite teams are listed, there will always be a part of me that roots for the Rockets, Texans, Astros, and even the Saints since I've been to so many games living in Mobile, AL for 8 years. (I know, terrible since my team is divisional rivals with them) The only caveat is when they're playing of my favorite teams and then, they're taking a back seat.
That said, my Uncle has GSW season tickets and I'll surely take advantage of free tickets while I'm on the Left Coast. They'll be exciting to watch, but I'll be rooting for whomever their opponent is. Everybody else > GSW.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
I was born and raised in Sacramento. My father is from Cleveland and always watched Cleveland sports when I was younger. The first piece of sports memorabilia / merchandise I ever got was when I was like 3 or 4 and it was a Cavs license plate so I gravitated to them instead of the Kings. I went to tons of Kings games growing up so I have a soft spot for the kings and cheer for them if they don't play Cleveland, but the Cavs have always been my team. I grew up wanting to be Mark Price.
First Cavs game in Cleveland that I will ever attend will be the home opener in the upcoming season.

Grew up in San Francisco so followed the Warriors. Uncle is a season ticket holder for the Clippers so have been to more of their games. I am now a season ticket holder for the Kings it is cheaper to be a Kings season ticket holder than to buy Warrior tickets on the secondary market these days.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
Live in Ohio, so geography....kind of.
My dad is a Rams fan first (they were on TV a lot in the 60s), Indians 2nd and Cavs 3rd. I was born in 86...basketball was my favorite sport so got into the Cavs....Mark Price and then Terrell Brandon...was a diehard Indians can through the 90s (who in Ohio wasn't?), now my main passion is the NFL - I will not miss a Rams game....for anything.
Cavs have always been 2nd for me, but I still consider myself a diehard and watch most games.
Never understood the city thing...if the Cavs moved across country I'd still be a fan. Probably a product of my favorite sports team being in a different state. But if my team got the Supersonics treatment, I'd draw the line there....couldn't be a fan at that point.

Also, cant stand the assumption that I'm a bandwagon fan from some people on here. Long time Heat fans probably hated it too.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
Tradition, indirectly through geography.
Detroit was the metro area with a pro team closest to where my father grew up. He was a Piston fan growing up and got me turned onto it when I was about 9 or 10 (this was the mid 90s). Prior to that I had no interest in basketball or pro sports.
I have never lived in or anywhere even remotely close to Detroit, and have really never even visited the city, so I have absolutely no connection to the city or community. Irony is that if the Pistons moved I think my dad would have a harder time rooting for them in a new city than I would.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
Not born in US.
Watched an NBA game alive many years ago and I fell in love with it.
To choose a team was not that hard. I usually avoid the fad teams, so I pretty much took out Chicago and LA immediately from my list.(they have by far the biggest amount of fans in my country). I also don't like "big city/money" teams or the easiest choice (team with the most titles), so NY and Boston were out of my list too.
I don't mind teams with no titles or just a few ones, as long as they have the right culture, with a good organization that knows how to draft and develop their own players. I absolutely hate teams with a moronic front-office that don't know how to spend money, that keeps wasting high draft picks and never get better (like the Browns in the NFL for example). I'm a NBA fan, not a masochist.
In the end, I was torn between the Jazz and Spurs. Chose the Spurs because of their history with international players. Have to say that it's a decision I'll never regret.
No the biggest city, not the team with the most fans and not the franchise with the most titles, but a franchise respected by everyone in the NBA.

Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I was a total bandwagon fan...Started off with the 1969 Bucks..Then I went with Walton's Bruins..Switched to the Warriors in 1975..Then I rooted for Larry Legend's Celtics against LA..
Then I did something incredibly dumb..I went back to being a Golden State fan and suffered through over two decades of mostly horrible basketball..Why did I watch all those GSW games when they were terrible? I dont have an answer..

Geography and family. Western NYers were sort of a hodgepodge. A lot of Bulls fans during the Mike years. I wouldn't have become as invested if watching the Knicks wasn't something I did with my dad.

Dad took me to the games when I was a kid... The Mavericks were one of, if not the absolute worst, teams in the league the first year we went. I'll never forget us going to the game and watching the 3 J's beat Kemp and Payton during that first game though. Been a die hard fan ever since
