Funny how fans posting in this thread have no relation to the warriors yet now all of a sudden cheer for them as one of "their" teams.

From Vancouver so could have easily been a Sonics fan (2.5 - 3 hrs away) but the Raptors were on TV more and Vince Carter was still with them so I gravitated towards Toronto.
Guess I got pretty lucky in that regard

I was a student/researcher in the Boston area for 5 years, and read the Boston Globe. Larry Bird was a rookie. I imprinted on the Celtics. I also imprinted on the Dodgers growing up in southern CA, and on the Patriots after I moved back to the Boston area.
In all cases, I have warmer feelings towards LA and NYC teams than most Boston fans, because I lived in each area for a long time.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
When I was a teenager there were many young stars on the rise. Everyone was talking about Bryant, Carter, McGrady and ESPECIALLY Iverson. But other guy caught my attention - Paul Pierce. It started with NBA Live circa 2000.
In those games he was just scary. I mean, he had a skillset to slice your throat in 30 ways. Good passing, speed, size, dynamic cuts, dunks, layups, finger rolls, and otherworld jump shot. Just a perfect opponent, he punished me with 40+ efficient points a game - even with mediocre teammates. It may sound funny, but there weren't many games televised outside US and video games were a perfect tool to learn rosters and understand hoops basics at that age.
So this guy impressed me again and again, and with time I started to like other things about Celtics. Great history, awesome players in the past, nice logo & colors, and this cold-blooded murderer harrasing mortal men. Once I learnt about Larry Bird, there was no way back. Garnett and Allen acquisitions after a couple of years sealed the deal.

I am from Portugal, so geography is out of the question. I started following in 06/07. Never was a fan of LeBron or those Lakers or Celtics teams. Always been a fan of Nowitzki and Ginobili, so kind of a fan of the Mavs and Spurs. That 2011 run was magical.
Then Ricky Rubio came into the league and I started following the Wolves. First time I made some effort to consistently follow a team. Still do and probably will continue even if Rubio leaves. Which I hope doesn't happen.

Why the Patriots? Wanted to follow the Boston connection?

Mavericks fan because of Cuban and Dirk. I liked Dirks game. Cuban was a fan that became wealthy and got to buy a team. I love the story and respect him as a business man.
Knicks fan because I'm from NYC and I feel some type of loyalty for them so I definitely support them. Except for when they play the Mavs.

in summer of '73 the Suns had their camp in Lake Havasu AZ... at my little high school. Closed practices in the morning, open to the public at night. Got to shag Free Throws for Charlie Scott after practice. Done deal.

Particular player. I was huge fan of Mike Bibby when I was a kid. When he got traded to ATL I of course started watching them instead of the kings. I was a little older when he was on ATL and I think that was when I started to view basketball as a team sport rather than hoping my favorite player would just get the ball every time and shoot lol. Eventually I just naturally started to root for them as a team and just stuck with them ever since

damn i feel old. became a fan of laks when magic dethroned philly and the doctor. went thru the wars with the celts and the bad boys. saw magic go down and had to stick with crummy (actually, he was ok) sedale threat as a replacement w/ no-knees worthy. saw a rebirth with the lake show, then saw that taken to the next level when magic unretired. saw jerry west pull off the biggest heist in history at the time with shaq/kobe (kd to gs in modern era). went thru the kobe-colorado/ pjax-kobe drama; had our first superteam in 04; got our butts handed in 04/08. got pau ariza artest and won again. got dwight nash and tried to go for it and failed miserably. watch old ass kobe drop 60 on fumes. got dissed by free agents for last couple of yrs; dealing with idiot buss kids; got julius ran, jclarkson, deangelo, ingram, nance jr, zubac, and gonna see where that goes. gotta love the process!!

Sadly, I lived through that. The Sonic's were my first love. A fan for more than 20 years. But, I could never root for the Thunder. I still get a sick feeling whenever I see their games on t.v. (which I try to avoid). Similar to how Cleveland fans feel towards Baltimore, I would guess. I don't think the bitterness will really ever go away.
Yeah, I lived through that as well with the Houston Oilers. From the time the Oilers left to when the Texans debuted I only watched one full NFL game, and it was the Super Bowl where the Titans lost. I only watched it in hopes of seeing them lose. I was like Pedro Cerrano praying to Jobu in hopes that they would lose.

I'm Canadian and Toronto is all we have so geography is it. If Vancouver was still around I'd most likely be a Grizzlies fan.

Lol, I do the same thing during the playoffs. I bring out my Westbrook voodoo doll & go to work on it. The game 6 collapse vs. the Warriors, was all done by me. The worst part tho, is when some **** will say, the Thunder franchise last won a title in 1979. Or they mention a player back in the day, did so & so. Its so infuriating. I just want to throw something at the television.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
I started watching basketball in early 2009 when I was about 15. I always got into american football way more and never really payed any attention to the NBA. My best friend finally got me into it when the 2K10 demo came out we played each other over and over and I really liked Orlando. I loved their colors and the fact that they were good but didn't have a bandwagon. I really like Jameer Nelson, Dwight and VC. So once the 09-10 season started I realized OKC had a team and I only live an hour and a half from there so I felt like they had to be my team. I had no clue how good Russ and KD were gonna be. That was the 1st year we made the playoffs and I really got into it. When Pau tipped in that basket in game 6 to win the series I broke my remote I was so mad. I'll never forget that season still to date the best playoffs I've ever seen. Suns and Jazz were still powerful, Chicago was just getting re-established, Orlando swept the Hawks by like 30 ppg. I still root for the Magic but OKC is my #1 always will be.

Re: Why are you a fan of your team?
I voted other.
Meaning i did like the way they played.
Since ten years ago i kinda lost the contact with NBA basketball, since non of our cable companies where i live were broadcasting NBA games. Back then i was a big fan of White Chocolate and i really liked Dwyane Wade (still do).
And three year ago i got a message from a friend of mine, saying : i got this thing, League Pass, gonna give you my username and password so you can watch some games. I did, including Game 6 of the finals that year (Ray Allen Game ) and i liked it enough to make a LP subscription the next year.
I was watching random games, some of Heat games till the January game in MIami versus GSW. I started the game rooting for Miami and i finished it getting in love with GSW's team. Not only Curry, but also Lee and Klay at first, and then Bogut and Iggy, bassically the whole starting 5. Since then i watched almost all of their games, i think i missed maximum 5 of them, rs and playoff combined.
I don't consider myself a bandwagon fan ( nor i give fuuck somebody else calls me that ) but as an international fan i was looking for good basketball, i am not related to a certain area or certain team.
