Realistic worst-case scenarios for your team?

Post#1 » by SouthernFried » Sun Jul 17, 2016 4:25 am

For the Rockets, I would say Harden is still in a funk from the MVP fiasco of '15 and resorts to giving less than his optimal effort on defense as well as chucking when the pressure of the games get too much for him. I could see Capela not being ready for prime time and us having to bank on Nene's remaining capabilities to carry us at 5. Gordon, D-Mo (assuming he's re-signed), and Anderson miss around 25-30 games each which would be enough to make us struggle, but not enough to justify a tank with the front office/fans. I would hate an #8 seed to be pummeled by Durant and Co, while missing out on a supposedly "generational" draft.
Reality has a Rockets bias.

Worst case scenario for me would be injuries to key players. Without considering injuries I would say our worst case is 5/6 seed

Yeah, that's pretty much my worst case scenario as well.

Fortunately that will not happen now that Pablo Money is back in the fold! ;)

Jazz seem most vulnerable to injury at C to me. If Gobert goes down we are in a bit of trouble. Other than that I think we can plug and chug for hte most part this year.

Matthew Dellavedova wins MVP and outplays LeBron in the ECF, but then runs into MVP runner-up Timofey Mozgov in the Finals, who leads his Lakers to the title. Cleveland forever regrets re-signing LeBron instead of Delly/Mozgov and dreams of the Austrussian dynasty that could have been.

EDIT: Oh, missed the "realistic". We lose to the Warriors.

Suns just barely miss out on the playoffs by a few games.

wade battles injuries all year
rondo doesn't fit with the roster
butler is worse playing next to two ball dominant guards
mirotic plays inconsistent enough (but not too badly) so re-signing him long-term becomes a frustratingly difficult decision
none of the young guys take a significant step forward
denzel valentine is clearly not an nba-caliber athlete
butler plays well enough despite all of this to carry the bulls to like 39 wins and the 11th pick

there's only like a...20% chance of this happening though...let's go bulls!

Excluding injuries:

Bulls don't gell, Wade signals that he'll opt out with no intention of resigning, Bulls get nobody in 2017 FA, Butler continues to chafe with management and wants out.

KAT doesn't take the next step he should, neither does Wiggins, Wolves miss playoffs by a big margin.

It's a win win situation for Dallas. Either our new players gel together and have a great season to make the playoffs again or Dallas has a lackluster season and gets a lottery pick.
The worst case scenario is if Dallas trades away more draft picks in a trade to acquire another old player.

Rose stays just as inefficient, me first, and injury prone as he's always been; Noah gets hurt and misses a few weeks; and Melo's knee or shoulder acts up and misses time.

We lose 50+ games.

lakers are still too **** to do anything

make bottom 3, lose the 2017 pick anyway, then because we lose it, we also lose the 2019 pick, then the cap lowers and we don't have enough cap space and can't sign westbrook

that's pretty realistic

Suns are sitting somewhere between 5th-14th pick in 2017 draft.

Nets stay competitive during the season and win 32 game and end up with the 10th pick.

For the Knicks would be just barely missing or making the playoffs. We finally have our pick so lost 55-60 games or going to ecf are both best case. Anything else is really worst case

Beal (because he's fragile) and Wall (because he's reckless) both miss chunks of the season.
Gortat and Mahinmi don't amiably mesh as a C platoon.
Expensive team depth is an illusion.
Satoransky not quite ready for NBA.
Grunfeld makes trade at deadline to give team a "jolt," for Monta Ellis or something.
Team just misses playoffs but lands in sweet spot and thus surrenders protected pick
