J.R. Smith seeking 15 million a year....

Post#1 » by OrangeBlueSkies » Sun Jul 17, 2016 10:54 pm

... I mean really? I guess seeing Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe get paid made J.R. put his shirt on and come to his senses?

Thoughts?

I personally think he will settle somewhere in the 12 mill/year range with the Cavs.

As Dan Gilbert probably knows by now...what Lebron wants, Lebron gets.

Personally, I think it can work as a good trade tool... hypo the Cavs pay him 15mill a season. Soon enough they can trade him for another player on a similar contract, I.E. Rudy Gay. It's a flaw in the system with the cap rising.

Wouldn't be a horrible deal if it was for a year or two. I was never a fan of J.R, I feel like if he goes somewhere that isn't in win now mode he will regress mentally. He might tune out.

no way they trade j.r, would ruin team chemistry

also j.r is a good fit in that offense

Given what some other people made this offseason that's not that outlandish. The Cavs will, and should, play hardball, though. No one else that would want JR has the cap space to sign him to a deal anywhere near that much. My guess is they settle in the 13 million range eventually on a two to three year deal.

deep down i feel like Lebron really hates Dan Gilbert but hell be content with him for the city of Cleveland...so i could totally see him holding out till his boys get paid.

Fine with him getting 15M a year, just not on a 3 or 4 year deal.

The thing is, Gilbert has won his ring. Rich Paul doesn't have as much power as he may think in this situation. He may get JR more money, but no one else is going to give JR that kind of bread, so where's your leverage? There are only 3-4 teams now with cap room.

Well Jeff Green just got $15 million and he's not as good as JR. Mozgov sat on the end of the bench for the same team JR was a starter and he got $16 per.

How can any one blame JR Smtih for wanting that kind of money in this ridiculous market?

If Mozgov can get $16 million/year, why can't JR?

he was far more productive last year

He's better than Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe and they got more than that. Granted he's 30 years old at this point.

Because Mozgov has more value for most teams. He is a center; he has more upside; he actually had a better PER than JR; he has more chance than JR of playing better with a bigger role; he has less chance of creating headaches for everyone.

If I'm a team other than Cleveland, I would rather pay Mozgov 16 million than JR. JR could be useful to a contender, but not for 16 million. And why would you want him if you are in the bottom/middle of the pack?

Dear Lebron,

We'll keep your boy on the roster, we'll even pay him very good money. But we aren't going to pay him $15 million a year, and neither is anybody else. Now if you seriously want to redestroy your image over J.R. freaking Smith, and get accused of running away from Golden States' superteam, there is nothing we can do about that. After the long climb back, culminating in statues and streets being names after you, I would hope it would never come to that again. It would be such a senseless waste. But either way, while we'll offer him something fair, for the sake of some sort of payroll sanity, which I would think you would actually support as it might give us more flexibility to stay competitive, we aren't going to be paying J.R. twice his market value.

See you in camp.

Have a great summer!

he's seeking 15 doesnt mean he'll get it.

3/40 sounds good for him. thats about 13mil a year as long as he's contending. reasonable for both sides.

That is basically what Crawford got and he is 6 years younger. Seems like fair market value
