If nobody offers him more than $10 mil per over multiple years, I could see him signing for$5-8 mil for one season.

No one else is offering him anything...
If I were the Cavs or if I were JR I would go for that deal. Win/Win. The Cavs need JR and JR needs the Cavs.
Still think GS wins it all next year but Cleveland has no chance without JR Smith.

I don't think he gets 15 but there really is no where else for him to go.

Also the Cavs should stop acting like they are doing HIM a favor because If Wade can leave Miami (rightfully or not) for being slighted, JR can move along as well.
$15million is right for a top 10 SG, on a Championship team. Miami would be a nice destination, imo.
SG is pretty weak right now, but Smith a top ten SG is a stretch...he literally goes entire series where he seems invisible. I think most playoff caliber teams have a shooting guard who is better than JR Smith.
11th in RPM, 10th in WS/48, and 8th in BPM this past season among all SGs. And his numbers actually got pretty significantly better across the board in the postseason, as he posted a 4.3 BPM, 125 ORTG, and a +8.6 On/Off. His hot three point shooting saved us a number of times, most notably in Game 7 of the Finals, when we were down by about 8 at the half and he opened up the 3rd quarter by scoring 8 straight points (2 threes) and putting us back in the game. He's also turned into not just a solid defender, but a pretty damn good one. Finally, he rarely turns it over and is near the top of the league in lowest TOV%.
How is it a stretch to call him a top 10 SG?
His impact stats are high and he's playing on the Cavs? Not really a big coincidence, I mean you can't be on the Cavs and not have high winshares.
Is he as good as McColum? Middleton? Reddick? Green? I have my doubts.

How is an integral part of a championship team and a productive player not worth 15 mil in this market? He's absolutely worth that much.

JR Smith is done with discounts. He signed for less with both the Knicks and the Cavs. Especially on a team with a worse player in Iman Shumpert getting paid 10million, he is right to ask for 15.
I wouldn't want him on my team though, definitely not in a city that has a lot of distractions. He's perfect in Cleveland.

I'm not sure about this, LeBron clearly wants JR on the team for some unknown reason.
How is it an unknown reason? JR has played great for the Cavs. He shot 40% from three all year and then 43% in the postseason. He's perfectly content to be a role-player on the Cavs and he even played pretty good defense in the Finals. He also basically matched Klay Thompson's production. He didn't score as many points, obviously, as Klay took twice as many shots, but his percentages and other stats were all about the same. When your fifth best player goes toe-to-toe with the other team's second best player, you're in a good spot.

Everyone in Cleveland (fans, front office, teamates) want JR back in Cleveland on at least a 2 yr term, so I imagine he will be back on something like a 3 yr 40 mill agreement. JR is one of my favorite players on the team...he has not played/acted like his reputation in New York and Denver. He definitely needs to be on a winning team. He has played solid D, hustles, and even can go long stretches without forcing up an ill advised shot.

Yeah, by BPM JR Smith is a better player than Klay Thompson...
Top 10 is a big stretch.
PER puts him 33rd, which I think is also wrong. If we asked everyone to rank the 10 SG they would like to have on their team, I don't think anyone seriously puts JR in there.
Harden, Butler, Thompson, Wade, DeRozan, McCollum, Reddick, Wiggins/Lavine, Beal, Oladipo. You have 10 there.
And then Tyreke, T. Allen, Lou Williams, Ginobli (probably still more useful last year), Middleton, Batum/Lamb, Fournier, Burks, Monta, E. Turner, Jamal, Kilpatrick, RHJ, Hood...
Plenty of candidates as good if not better.

I wonder how much Gilbert is netting from The Cavs? That determines what he does. We all like to sit here and say Lebron runs the team, (and he pretty much does), but Gilbert is another ultra successful man too. Losing Lebron sucks, but I know he has a lot of pride.

JR's defense has taken the biggest growth by far. So yes, he by way of playing and performing at a high defensive level in the Finals, is better than the above mentioned.

But he's not a better defender than Danny Green and probably not better than Khris Middleton, so that still makes little sense to me.

With all these crazy contracts being handed out I don't understand why people are puzzled by this. He was a starter on a championship team. Give him his money.

Too bad the Cavs gave Shump 10 mil per last year. JR is a much better player and more valuable to the team, but he might barely get over 10.
Hope Shump improves this offseason and becomes the 3+D guy most Cavs fans expected from him this year.

That may be so, but what would Green's and Middleton's value be in the new market? Middleton may actually be a $20m yr player now.

Wish ATL could sign him, I'd throw 12-15/yr at him on a 2 year deal. Used to think he was a clown but dude can ball and he's held it together the last few years. Might as well pay him.
