I'd say Carmelo Anthony fits into this category

Some believe he's a all-time scorer of the basketball, that's about average to above average at about everything else, but he hasn't had great surrounding talent.

Other believe he's a selfish chucker that doesn't care about winning, defense, passing, etc.

Really? His attitude & demeanor sucks. But, do people really question his talent?

his talent, no, but I think his ability to be a franchise centerpiece is in question due to his maturity or lack thereof

I like him. But he's always touted as elite but he's just not there right now. He's getting there but ppl talk like he's there now. Can't shoot and he gets his stats with high usage.

Most superstars that have not proven to be winners.
CP3 is one of the few that is widely respeced even if he's never won anything, because he's a team player and people likes this kind of players.
Griffin, Harden, Melo, Westbrook, Cousins, DeRozan, Dwight etc... all of them are critizised for aspects of their game: being inefficient, being soft, being bad on defense, being chuckers etc...

The second-tier talents are more interesting in this regard: players like Rondo, Kevin Love, Rudy Gay, Lin.

Came here to post this. I will fight you on the street over Rubio, I think hes great. So many people think hes garbage. His impact on the game always been so much higher than his statline suggests.

You can call me a Vucevic hater I guess. Not a fan at all, think hes very overrated around here, got in some arguments about it in the past, so good call.

Sam Hinkie

*Quickly runs away from thread*
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

Okay and for what it's worth I try to believe this isn't biased.... but Damian Lillard.

Everything we hear from him on social media we get a black and white response here on realgm. Some think he is a hard working underrated point guard carrying a young team. While some others think he is an over rated over achieving cry baby benefiting from an under rated but also over achieving cast. Seriously this guy tweeted that nobody was above getting beat and it turned into a lengthy thread with some posters calling for the guys head questioning motive. It's crazy sometimes.

I may not like Draymond but he's a great player and a great teammate. I have a feeling majority of fans see him that way even if they actively cheer against him.

Agreed. This may or may not make sense to some, but individually, many of the Warriors don't bother me, but collectively, including their family members and owner, they really started to rub me wrong this season (I do however like Steve Kerr. From what I've observed, he's pretty classy. And their GM knows what's going on, that's for sure). As far as Draymond is concerned, he's isn't a Bill Laimbeer by any stretch of the imagination. Way more talented and certainly less dirty, but they have some similar parallels. Such as their teams and fans love them, but a lot outside that circle many dislike them. While fans may have a distaste for them, I'm sure many would welcome each of them to their team with open arms. As an opponent you think they're dirty, as a fan you think they're just doing the dirty work and they're "gritty". :D
