How many tiers are there? How many players in each tier? What delineates the tiers? I must've slept through this day of NBA class.

Many tiers. People define own tiers but generally 6 if you've seen enough and most only ever talk about top 3 tiers anyway. Superstar, star, inconsistent star (depends on matchup), above average at position, average at position, below average at position.

If you want in terms of rankings it's prob something like:

tier 1: 1 - 5
tier 2: 6 - 20
tier 3: 21 - 50
tier 4: 51 - 150
tier 5: 151 - 300
tier 6: 301 - beyond

He is a top 10 player right now and has been top 20 for about 2 seasons now.

I can almost guarantee that you havent watched this guy play except when the raps faced the heat in the playoffs. Its weird that people like you who know nothing are usually the most vocal ones.

Please tell me which of these players he is better than:

Lebron
Curry
Durant
Leonard
Westbrook
Chris Paul
Anthony Davis
Paul George
Harden
Lillard

He is going through a hot streak, he will cool down soon.

He also looked good last regular season. In the playoff he was a completely different player, in a bad way.

3rd tier player is the leading scorer on a top 4 team in the nba? damn. Impressive

He has been scoring but I don't see how you think Toronto in a top 4 team in the NBA. They are currently 7th in the east (yeah they only have 1 loss) but it's not like they were top 4 last year.

Replace Lillard with Blake Griffin and you have a more realistic list of a top 10.

What I've been most encouraged about is that DeMar doesn't seem as reliant on Kyle Lowry to play well. Lowry's hardly an elite playmaker, but he did a great job of getting DeRozan the ball in his comfort zones, especially off of those curls. What made DeMar efficient last season was he attempted shots much closer to the basket, and Lowry was a big reason for that. Only 2 games but the 2 games Lowry missed and DeMar played, he struggled with creating easy shots for himself.

This season, he's a man reborn. His shot creating abilities are far better than they were a year ago. It's giving me hope his game will actually translate into the playoffs.

The funny thing is, he wasn't a different player. Like I said in my post, DeRozan relied so heavily on Lowry to set himself up for good shots, because the shots he created for himself resulted in turnaround fadeaway bricks. The Pacers and Heat treated Lowry like he was Rajon Rondo, and it effected Lowry's ability to create for DeMar. DeMar continued bricking the shots he made for himself, but all those easy shots Lowry made for him were absent.

Where he looked like a different player was actually in fact against the Cavaliers, the one series he played well in.

Derozan get buckets and has improved at this every year. Tough though to build around a guy who can't shoot 3s and is pretty much non-existent on defense (cannot guard his own position. if you think otherwise, you're watching him with rose-tinted glasses). Guy also has 4 assists so far in 3 games despite a 37%(!) usage rate, and has yet to hit a single 3. Demar is a killer from mid-range and he when he gets to the rim he can be a borderline elite scorer. But he has so little in terms of versatility, it's tough to call him a top 20 player. I felt that 46 rank was fair. Fans always overrate guys who put up scoring numbers.

Actually if you've actually watched him this year, his defense has been good.

I'll probably stick with the guy who's highly reliable health wise.
