Coach Rondo: What Teams Should Sign Him?

Post#1 » by OneAnswer » Thu Jan 19, 2017 12:44 am

It's not a question of 'if' but 'when', my friends. What teams could pick him up to act as player/coach right now?

Let's see:
LA Clippers
Brooklyn Nets...
Chicago Bulls?

None.

Even a team aiming to tank might win just to spite him.

The only team dumb enough to bring on coach Rondo has to be the Sacramento Kings

Why are people assuming that he'll be a **** coach? I think he'll be an excellent coach.

Like him or not the dude is very smart.

He's only 30 years old and can still play. It seems premature to assign him to current teams as a coach when he still has a few years ahead of him as a player.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

you know him starting off in the d-league isn't the worst idea. He could eventually work his way onto someone's staff and then become a coach that way.

Now might be the perfect time for the Cavs to fire Lue and hire Rondo...Stick to the formula

I would love to see a team dumb enough to hire Rondo as a coach just to see him clash with the front office and get fired. Better yet, clash with his players and get fired.

Does Rondo have a history when it comes to clashing with management?

He would pretty much be a Byron Scott type coach, which is getting phased out of the league.

Nobody wants to play for a stubborn ball hog who wore out his welcome every team he's played for. I imagine his offensive schemes wouldn't be much more than high screen best player, iso, or dribble down shot clock drive and dish rudimentary level stuff. He never ran an elite offense, and was prone to making bone headed plays like passing up an open shot, or layup to pad his assist numbers. He certainly played with effort in Boston, but his BBIQ is questionable to me.

Rondo may be smart, but his best traits were his effort and fire, which aren't exactly coachable aspects.

You're limiting his coaching potential to his playing ability.

Going by that logic why the hell are Steve Kerr and Luke Walton coaches? How a guy plays has no bearing on how he'd be as a coach.

He's smart as hell. Always able to think several steps ahead. It's his temperament I would worry about. Hot head.

A big part of being a good coach is dealing with different personalities. Rondo ain't much of a people person. No matter how much smarts someone has about the game, it's hard to get that across if you're not good with people.
