He has a point, the Celtics won the chip on the laurels of their defensive chops. As you know, Thibs was the mastermind behind that.

If you don't think coaching matters you're crazy, avery got outcoached by pat riley, heat win, spo got out coached by carlisle mavs win, coaches definitely matters, mavs had no business winning in 11, every team we played had more talent than us including the first round blazers. Same reason we are in the hunt for the playoffs this year and we suck(please tank)

I'm not sure anyone really rates Doc that high so I'm not sure that he is "overrated ". I wouldn't want him as my team's coach, I know that much.

If you are just talking about 2015, CP3, Blake and Jordan are better than Old duncan, young Kawhi. Spurs might have a better system but Kawhi struggled that year. The clippers were better team and had the better seed so I dont think it means anything.

38 y/o Duncan destroyed Jordan in that series. 18ppg/11rpg @ 60%TS and they were the defending champions with Kawhi as the Finals MVP, so that's not an excuse.

Plus, LAC had 56 wins and SA had 55 wins. They only played in the 1st round of the playoffs because of that old dumb division champion rule that gave Portland the 4th seed with 51 wins.

MartinToVaught wrote:Of course he's overrated. His inability to make even the simplest adjustments gets exposed every year in the playoffs. He refuses to develop young players. The quality of his "coaching" is entirely dependent on how loaded his roster is with talent. Meanwhile, you see guys like Rick Carlisle squeezing every ounce of production out of garbage rosters while getting paid less than Doc. On top of that, the media protects Doc and goes along with the excuses he makes for his failure.

Com'on now, that's just flat out lie. Who else would give that much playtime and dedication to Austin River?!

Umm now the question is, Doc vs Casey...Who sucks more

He wasn't lying. Many coaches would of done a great job with that team.

So your opinion as an outsider is better informed than that of a player who played for him in 2 different organizations?

Doc does make the personnel decisions in LA, and it's been an unmitigated disaster.

Doc doesn't coach, his assistants are the ones that do the actual coaching.

That's funny. Beating the defending champs ment nothing

What matters is the defending champs gets better or worse. Was 15 Spurs better than before?

doc rivers is a really good coach. but he is also overrated, so yes both can be true (i.e. not mutually exclusive like it was mentioned in a previous post).

that said, this is a lot of sour grapes stuff coming out of davis's side. likely had everything to do with the team not wanting to retain him.

Being misdiagnosed by the medical stuff surely made things worse. We are all very well aware of how the medical stuff can screw up injuries.

He's a good coach. It's just that Mike Brown made him look like Pop every time the Cavs played the Celtics the first go around.

Doc traded away Dudley who guarded and can shoot the 3 for his son lol He should've been fired then.

Most overrated coach in the NBA lol Any coach would've been able to win in 2008 with Garnett, Allen and Pierce.
