You have no idea what you're talking about, Gobert is far more valuable than Hayward, it's not even close.

I think you start Hayward on DJ, and live with the rebounding consequences. Doc doesn't prefer to send guys to crash the offensive glass anyways. It worked with Bogut against the Grizzlies, and the Bulls are also having Jimmy switch onto the roll man when they see the PnR coming as well. The Jazz will lose if they continue to allow CP3 to have everything he wants.

Problem with that is now you have Hayward covering the Paul/DJ pick'n'roll, which is just gonna be easy lob after easy lob. And DJ does crash the offensive boards quite heavily, it's the rest of the team that don't even try. Doc usually lets one man do it, and DJ might be a top 3 offensive rebounder in the league, ability wise.

The Warriors tried that again against Robertson and the Thunder last year and it didn't work at all. To be honest, I think the main reason it worked against the Grizzlies was the shock factor. Once you're ready for it, there's many ways you can exploit it. Which doesn't mean that heavily sagging from Luc doesn't hurt the Clippers, it does, and a lot. But not enough to completely ignore him and let the big man of the team be free.

There are also many things you can do once the matchups are set that way. Hayward is so much more mobile than Withey or Favors. You can switch it, especially if Ingles starts out on Paul. You can have Favors pick up the roll man instead and have Hayward run back to the corner and guard Luc. Hayward can also hedge or trap which are not options with Favors or Withey. Anything is better than the way Jazz are defending it now. We put the burden on our C to guard the PG and the C at the same time. It's one thing if you have Rudy Gobert doing that, but Favors and Withey aren't good enough.

I think you need to rely on scrambling more than structure against a team like LAC. Make them beat you with their ball movement instead of their initial action.

a lot of talk goin' around here about the Clippers problems. Seems Jazz have done a good job so far.

But today it counts. has to be a statement game from the Jazz. and i mean a statement from the crowd and the team in equal measure. the have to make the clips uncomfortable playing game 4 in SLC again.

hope Jazz can limit Paul a little bit. With Gobert out it is not only a tactical problem, Rudy also got in his head the last time with a lot of talking and even some provocation causing some imprudent action from CP3.

anyway. in the last years these teams have built some kind of rivalry, i expect a basketball war.

(maybe Bolomboy could get some minutes with Withey distracted because of his cause with the accusation of domestic violence.
Joel is an athletic freak with pure energy, rebounding and hustle. the Jazz lacking this a bit so far)

Hayward is a great player for the Jazz, no doubt. I've been a big fan of him for a long time. He's a class act player with a great work ethic. Probably not the most athletically gifted, but he's deceptively athletic.

All that said... I simply can't agree with you. I think it's clear that Gobert is the Jazz MVP. His impact on the entire team is unreal. He makes everyone on that team better at both offense, and defense. He's also transformed into the vocal leader of the team. He is the team's alpha. He's a legitimate franchise player. Hayward is great, no question. I can't take anything away from Hayward, but if you have watched a significant amount of Jazz games closely this season I find it very difficult to say Gobert isn't the team's best player.

Its downright sad that the Clips are tied 1-1 with the Jazz missing Gobert.

Two things...I've never seen Gordan Hayward out play the opposing teams star. IMO he's a very borderline second level star.
Second....when Blake Griffin actually defends anyone decently....let me know. He might be one of the worse on ball and certainly one of the worse help defensive players in the league.

IMO the outcome of this series would change in Utah's or Clippers favor if either of Gordan or Blake was able to elevate their games...offensively for Gordan and defensively for Blake.

Otherwise....I think the winner of this series pretty much backs into the win....playing a pretty low level of playoff hoops.

I really wish this game was the 9:30 Eastern game and not the Rockets v. Thunder.

Here we go
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

clips are willing to switch everything no matter how bad the matchups are and jamal crawford is wandering around the court like a lost child at the mall. how unfortunate for the clips

Was expecting Hayward to escape the clutches of Luc and the Clippers defense tonight. Clippers just have to ride out the storm of his barrage and hope other Jazz players don't get going.

Jamal Crawford in the game though, hmm...always scares me

Don't know why Pierce and Crawford are in together, but we know from experience that it is a disaster combination.

Also Jamal Crawford can't even make open ones

I wouldn't have thought the Jazz could win this series without Gobert, but now I'm starting to think they can.

how unfortunate is it for this team that we couldn't retain barnes or stephenson and instead had to keep crawford. and that paul pierce returned to curse us for one final year

well they shouldn't be able to but doc rivers also shouldn't be playing crawford or pierce, and he also is supposed to be smart enough to figure out a gameplan to get jj redick going.

Only Doc and the Clippers play 5 bench players in the playoffs while the opposing team has like 3 of their starters on the floor
