Blazers underperformers
Nothing against the Blazers i think this is something that comes out of their insane depth more than anything else but does anyone else get the feeling some of their old players are going to absolutely kill on other teams?
Channing Frye-I expect him to prove he's a quality starting bigman this year
Ike Diogu-One of the most hidden of the hidden gems in the NBA and I think with consistent minutes he will be proven a good nba player
Jerryd Bayless-Came out of last years summer league running but inconsistent minutes and being buried on the bench keeps him from really developing or even knowing if the talent is there to develop
(all players from arizona so i might be biased)
Rudy Fernandez-has actually had some success on the blazers but it feels like he could do more on another team
Obviously as the season wears on we will get a better idea on the Frye/Diogu projections but Bayless and Rudy will probably be mysteries for a long time.

Their "talent" has been overrated for years. Roy is probably the only player on their roster that they've picked up in the past few years that hasn't been a massive disappointment.

Your right I was massively dissapointed last yr in a ten plus game improvement, The blazers suck and noone on their team belongs in the nba.

Some of their "old players"? Last time I checked, Rudy and Bayless are still current players. Bayless had a really productive pre-season while Rudy sat out with back spasms. As a rebuttal to the players you've mentioned...
Channing Frye - Portland was a bad situation for him, whereas Phoenix is probably the best situation he could have ever hoped for. He's got a chance to start, he's playing in a system that perfectly fits his skills where he's free to shoot early and often and he doesn't have to worry about playing defense. Channing's a great guy and couldn't be happier for him. I hope he has a huge season for the Suns.
Ike Diogu - I think you're way off with him. A "hidden gem"? The guys a fringe NBA player and a complete bust for a #9 pick. I got nothing against the guy, but him being stuck on a deep Portland team had nothing to do his minutes. He's just not that good.
Jerryd Bayless - He's one of those players that would need to be in the right situation. If a team is willing to play him at SG, his natural position, he'd be a really good player. If they try to force him to be a PG like Portland wants, it's not gonna be good.
Rudy Fernandez - The player every other team in the NBA wants. He's a starter on most teams. I could see him averaging something in the 15-20ppg range on the right team with a prominent role in the teams offense. He's a really good player.

This has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read on RealGM. Quite an accomplishment, you should be proud.

The Blazers 'depth' is massively overrated. Outside of Rudy most of it is trash.

Re: Blazers underperformers
I imagine 10 teams would love to have Joel Przybilla starting at C for them. Travis Outlaw was 5th in votes for 6th man of the year, Rudy you like already and then there's Andre Miller has been one of the better point guards in the league the past ten years.erekose200 wrote:The Blazers 'depth' is massively overrated. Were they expecting LaMarcus Aldridge to average 33/15 or something? How is he a disappointment?

This thread makes my head hurt.
Players are what they are because they are good or bad. This is true the vast majority of the time. I will be shocked if any of those players do better once or if they leave Portland. And I hate the Blazers as much as anyone, but all this unwarranted criticism is really ridiculous.

Bizarre thread. Yes, players tend to do better on teams that can give them minutes. I remember Dan Dickau never played in Portland and then went to the Hornets (when they were awful the year before CP3) and scored 15-20 points a game for the second half of the year. They were a run and gun team, and most PGs with a decent handle and a decent jumper could have gotten that. You could add Von Wafer last year to the list.

I dont think you read the original post
I meant this thread to be about players who would or will do better not playing for the Blazers. Frye was a guy putting a PER of something like 10 and his lowest rebounding rate of his career with Portland. Maybe it is purely a matter of minutes but the per 36's and so on drop as well.
ps: Ike has always produced when given the minutes

I couldn't agree with Spykes more on this.
The basis of this thread is almost as preposterous as Simmons saying POR is going 41-41 due to Nate McMillan losing the team...

Re: Blazers underperformers
Channing Frye is not a good big man. Ask Knick and Blazers fans. The guy doesn't rebound, plays horrible defense, fouls too much, and has an inconsistent shot for someone who's specialty is his outside shot. Somehow he's still living off his rookie reputation. Suns fans will be clamoring for Robin Lopez.
Ike Diogu? No team has bothered to keep him. Pacers, Kings, Warriors, and Blazers.
Bayless is a SG in a PG's body. Probably had the worst rookie season of all 1st round rookies.
Rudy is a guy who I believe gets overrated by most of the league. He can't produce his own shot and plays poor defense. The guy makes clutch highlight plays, a great rebounder for his size, and a deadeye shooter. But if he is asked to do too much, I think you'll realize his limitations as a starter in this league. He's a great 6th man.
