ASG vs Olympics

Post#1 » by Parataxis » Fri Feb 12, 2010 1:15 pm

Does anybody know if this happened four years ago (or eight, for that matter)?

Seems like terribly planning on the NBA's part. I wonder why they didn't try to move it forward to the 7th instead.

EDIT: Just realised that the Super-Bowl was last week. (I'm not an NFL fan). That's a tough squeeze for the NBA - I suppose the 31st of Jan would have been too soon?

More people will watch the Olympics, and it won't even be remotely close. Simple because of all the countries involved.

But obviously most people on here will say the all-star game, it's a b-ball message board.

I actually might watch the Olympics instead. I'm only really interested in seeing Derozan dunk at ASW.

overpaid pros in a game that has little competition..........see defense

moments of glory that athletes have been working a lifetime to achieve

This. I don't understand how you guys would choose the All-Star trash over the Olympics.

Right on. All due respect to the athletes involved, but I couldn't care one bit about speed skating, downhill skiing, curling, bobsledding or just about any other sport in the Winter Olympics. I'll probably watch some of the overpaid millionaires play hockey, though.

(Maybe we feel like this because we live in California and Texas -- two bastions of winter sports)

Why does it matter which one we're gonna pick? Don't know why some of you are dissing the ASG too. I'm a basketball fan so it's no surprise that I will be watching the Allstar weekend instead of the winter olympics. There's 16 days of winter olympics to go around, so there's plenty of time to watch it, even after the Allstar weekend is over. u.u

Yeah I guess you feel safe since you're not paying the burdens of a 15 day circus which functions to boost the Olympic Industry and global corporations while making the poor poorer, taking them out of their neighbourhoods by gentrification projects and screwing the environment.

Have you seen what happens to neighbourhoods when a pro sports team wants a new arena/stadium built? (Usually taxpayer funded).

But this wasn't meant to pit the two against each other. I'm just wondering who in the NBA head office decided to set them right against each other, rather than earlier or later?

I totally thought this was going to be about the summer Olympics and how much better they are (especially the basketball) than watching the farce of a game that is the NBA ASG.

It's a freaking exhibition, a glorified pick-up game. What do some of you guys expect? A blood match where the losers are executed at half-court?

I will probably end up watching nearly every bit of all-star weekend because I am a basketball junkie. On the other hand, the only parts of the winter Olympics that I might catch is some of the hockey (even though I am not a hockey fan, but I hear it is some of the best hockey you can see), a little bit of the snowboarding events, and I will try to catch whenever Stephen Colbert is on, since he is supposed to be with Al Michaels at least once.
