Lebron's had some of the worst games of his career against Yao. With him not playing its a non-issue

I think there's a few things that are holding back his scoring numbers right now. First, the Heat are getting open and shooting so well from behind the arc (41% - good for 4th in the league) that he hasn't needed to score as much because he's finding a lot of open teammates. This isn't necessarily shown in the assists category because he has a bunch of hockey assists, but he has been looking to set up teammates a lot. Second, he's playing less minutes and handling the ball less. He's averaging the lowest minutes of his career (33.7/g) and his usage rate is the lowest of his career as well (28.1%). As his minutes and usage increase as the season progresses, his scoring will as well. And last, the Heat have been playing poor defense so far. This has led to less fast break chances. As they improve defensively & get in the open court and run, he's going to have more opportunities for easy points.

Well holy s**t Bob you called that one spot on.

I miss this Lebron, I love seeing him just terrorize teams when he needs to most.

First game winner in a win since at least 2010.

Yeah, he was like 1-10 in game-winning shots in the 2010-11 season. Last season he didn't really try to take them, either.

Anyway, that was a Cleveland LeBron game in every sense of the phrase - right down to the high volume of 3's and poor FT shooting

Stat of the night - 0 TOs. Nice to see that level of ball security even in a high scoring game.

Not-so-stat of the night - 8 FTA on 26 FGA. Too many jumpshots, he's getting to the line even less than the last two seasons, despite being visibly more explosive.

The one thing I've enjoyed about LeBron this season is his willingness to take the jumper. He's not just waiting for something easy to come, he's shooting them as a first-resort(when he's looking to score) and doing it with confidence. The results, thus far, have been very good.

On a side-note, his mobility was clearly limited by last night's ankle injury today. His movement was very last-season like. He looked fine against the Grizzlies though. Hope he recovers fast.

Not to mention the knee collision he had with Smith the other night in Atlanta.

He'll recover quickly though. He rolled an ankle in the preseason and was back to his explosive self within 5-6 days. Nice to know that he's got the confidence to take over with the jumper again anytime he's going to be physically limited.

Averaging 44.8 points per 48 on 81% TS in 15 minutes of clutch time this season.

After scoring only 15 4th quarter points all season, Lebron had 16 tonight.

Yeah, that too. Reading Miami's injury reports, apparently LeBron's battling a bunch of little nagging injuries this season. And this was before last night's ankle turn and the knee collision against Atlanta. Dude's getting banged up.

Games with 0 TOs by season

Code: Select all

Rk   Season  Count
1    2008-09     8
2    2005-06     4
3    2007-08     4
4    2012-13     3
5    2004-05     2
6    2012-13     2
7    2011-12     2
8    2009-10     2
9    2006-07     2
10   2003-04     1
11   2010-11     1

That's very impressive. The first 8 games put him on pace for ~31 games with 0 TOs this season. Don't see any scenario in which that happens, but still darn impressive that he's almost halfway to his career high 8 games into the season.

That explains the increasing passiveness.

Garnett's on top right now at +6.25. James is at +5.85. That's not including tonight, but I'd advise against using RAPM for anything until we're at least at the ~30 game mark.

James' defensive numbers have been way down this year, though I'm not sure which figures JE has listed on his site right now. He's been tinkering with some new stuff and I don't know if we're looking at prior-informed figures (what we want to see), non-prior informed (what with ~7 games is essentially useless), or something new entirely.

Miami's D has been brutal this year(bottom 5 DRTG), hurting LeBron's numbers in process. Although, I'll admit, his own effort hasn't been up to par so far this season.

Yup. He looked great in the preseason, so I was expecting more. Whatever, its early.
