Top 5 Teams Kobe ever played on?

Post#1 » by Albanian Damien » Sat Jul 19, 2014 6:21 pm

Hey I was actually asked to write an upcoming article about this so I figured I'd probe the minds of the realgm crowd(i'll cite this site don't worry). Basically what are the five best teams Kobe ever played on? It doesn't have to be a team that win the chip that year if you feel he had an ever better team before. I'll start and see if anyone can change my mind:
5. 2010 Lakers, back to back even though they won less than 60 games.
4. 1998 Lakers, often slept on even though they won 61 games and went to the conference finals. This team featured Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel, Young Shaq, and an emerging Kobe Bryant
3. 2009 Lakers, this was the "Kobe couldn't do it without me" revenge team. Finally able to capture the title without shaq.
2. 2000 Lakers, the first title of the Shaq and Kobe dynasty. 67 wins. Nuff said
1. 2001 Lakers, although they won 11 less games than the previous year, they made up for it in pure playoff dominance. 15-1.

What are your guys thought? Mods if this is the wrong board for this type of discussion please feel free to move it.
My Starting 5:

PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Paul Pierce
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Patrick Ewing

It's incredibly difficult to say, because we need to decide how much Kobe affected the performance of his teams - I find it very hard to compare the '98 Lakers, where Kobe was just a sixth man, to the 2009 Lakers, when he was at his peak, and a clear-cut leader of that team.

Assuming you mean quality of the team, and the end result, as opposed to talent on paper, supporting cast/"help" ect.

1.2001 Laker
2.2000 Lakers
3.2009 Lakers
4.2002 Lakers
5.2010 Lakers

The '98 Lakers may have been the most talented team he ever played on, and they looked dominant vs a 61 win Sonic team, but they were too imature and dysfunctional to compare to these proven champions.

Why do you have the 2010 lakers better than the 09 version? Just curious.

Because I believe Artest is an upgrade over Ariza. Also Shannon Brown from the bench was a good factor in 2010 sometimes during the season.

Kobe's 08 Lakers were definitely one of the strongest teams he played on. They were a 9+ SRS squad and posted a 117 ORtg after getting Gasol and that was with him missing 10 games. Then in the West playoffs they took out some very strong teams while going 12-3 in the process.

Yeah, I had considered that as well because the Lakers were also 22-4 with Gasol in the lineup during the regular season excluding that game he played 2-3 minutes in. That was one of my favorite offensive teams to watch. The reason I didn't go with them was because of how much I prefer 2010 Gasol, but thinking about it, Kobe was a much more athletic player and considerably more consistent in 2008, plus, the Lakers were getting much better contributions from the shooters and role players than any other year in 2008.
