Rockets are my bold prediction to finish top 2 Seed.

Post#1 » by mdonnelly1989 » Thu Oct 23, 2014 1:53 am

I believe when you look at how offensively gifted the Rockets are with Patrick Beverly, Harden, Ariza, and Howard also finished #2 in the league in offense last season.

Now you add the defense of Trevor Ariza and I believe they will finish top 2 seed.

I won't say they will make it to the finals however. Not until James Harden can figure out his playoff demons

OP don't you think Houston had a better team last year? I think losing Parsons might hurt them, and Lin off the bench seems to be a great 6th man option...

However yes Houston can maybe grab one of the top seeds, but #2 seems a little too much for me. I like the Howard/Harden combo, specially on offense. On defense I think Houston relies too much on how much Howard can help most players, their perimeter players really need to step up.

EDIT: I've been waiting for the Spurs to get old but it seems like it will never happen. Tim Duncan is like "the walking dead" - he made zombies cool again.

So if this is not the year Spurs drop their production, I think the top 3 seeds will be OKC, SAS and LAC.

I respectfully disagree. The West is too stacked.

Don't see Rockets getting better than #4 seed unless Dwight plays like 08-11 Dwight and Ariza exceeds expectations.

If Dwight gets back to being a one man top ten defense they surely can. Well to be honest they had a great backup. They didn't play together but an extremely important piece.
Anyone if he's back to that. The offense should resemble his Magic. Harden already takes perfect second option perimeter closer fit shots for that sort of offense, threes and free throws. They just can't play through Harden if they want to win.

The Clippers, Thunder, and Spurs are all a tier above the Rockets in my opinion.

The Rockets have no depth. They have James Harden, Dwight, Ariza, Terrence Jones, and Patrick Beverley. That's a starting lineup to be reckoned with (not 2nd best though), but their sixth best player is one of Motiejunas, Adrien, or 37-year-old Jason Terry. With Adrien, you know what you're getting- toughness inside and a few extra things every now and then, but he's a 10-15mpg role player, not a 6th man caliber player. Motiejunas is all over the place, and Terry hasn't been decent in two years. I think the starting five is too talented to miss the playoffs, but they're a big injury away from a doomsday scenario.

Although you are entitled to your opinion, i don't see any way they finish ahead of Spurs okc or Clips.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make the playoffs

same here... it's more likely that they miss the playoffs than actually grabbing the 2nd seed

I have them as the #8 in the West. So yeah.

This. Ariza by himself does not make up for losing Parsons and Lin off the bench

Unless there are major injuries to other teams stars its not happening( nor do i wish that would ever happened to a team, I know what its like....T-mac & Yao.) I honestly think our team this year will be better, we have a year or experience with playing together, Ariza is honestly a lot better fit then parsons was, sure we lose parsons offensive ability but Ariza's defense is something we have largely lacked.

Harden seems to be playing a lot more focused ball, I really think hes going to step it up and give some effort on the defensive side. The person that worries me still is T-Jones, guy looks like he hasn't worked on anything this summer.

Hypothetically they could be a tenth or even an 11th seed

SA OKC LAC
DAL POR MEM GS
DEN PHO NO

I'd say they have a 70 percent chance to make the playoffs

I dont know about a #2 seed, but I think Houston will be a better team this year.

Dwight and Harden, one of the best 1-2 punches in the league, now have a year of experience together so their chemistry should be better.

They lost most of their depth, but I think their starting five is more potent. McHale didnt go deep into the bench in the playoffs anyway. Ariza is a better fit next to Harden/Dwight. Their key role players Beverley and Jones will continue to improve as well.

The one thing thats holding them back is Kevin McHale.

Not sure why you listed Beverley and Ariza..Dwight and Harden are the stars..the rest are just role players, they don't matter
