[Poll] Nash vs. Iverson

Post#1 » by Flight33 » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:51 pm

Saw this debate on First take, and I'm wondering who do you guys have? Who had the better career?

Not that it matters, Stephen A. is super biased because he is best friends with AI so he went with Iverson, and Skip said he gives the slight edge to Nash.

This isn't a comparison that warrants discussion. Nash, easily.

I was flipping by ESPN2 and saw this on the screen, didn't listen to a second, and wasn't shocked at all to see who won their vote. I'll just say I feel differently.

I love Iverson's will and moves but Nash had the better career.

Very close call. I think Nash is easier to plug into a system and have a team constructed around his point guard game. However, in terms of looking at both players in a vacuum, I think Iverson was more talented. In terms of their careers, Nash has the MVP edge but in terms of individual accomplishments, Iverson did almost everything you could do except win a ring. That Lakers team he ran into was dominant and steamrolled everybody that postseason.

Well I like iverson's taste in music a lot more than Nash's so obviously Allen iverson for sheer cultural impact alone.

Iverson made a lot more money as an active player. Other than that I'd prefer Nash's career by far, and he has a way better future in the business (analyst? scout? coach? general manager? "ambassador"?) than AI for the years to come.

On Open Court they had AI as unanimous in the next top 10 players added to the top 50 list and they left Nash out because apparently he was a product of the system

It's painful to hear such disrespect towards Nash in the professional NBA world

Could go either way, I would take Iverson for the most part with a bad team. With a good team I'd take Nash.

How do you arrive at this conclusion?

Nash is a more efficient scorer and far better playmaker.

This should be Nash easily.

I don't like Iverson, never have; didn't like his attitude a bit. And yet I've defended him here (frequently) because I have a lot of respect for the caliber of player that he was. I tend to think more highly of his career than most on this forum.

Nash, otoh, is on my short-list of all-time favorite players. Class act, articulate, great teammate, fantastically skilled, and super-fun to watch. Nonetheless, I tend to think marginally LESS of his career than most on this forum.

In spite of the above, even I would estimate Nash belongs at least 10-15 places ahead of AI on an all-time list.

If you're judging on accomplishments and who made teams better, it is Nash without a question.
