Can the Mavericks have an offensive Goat caliber season?

Post#1 » by GSP » Fri Nov 14, 2014 5:03 am

Before the season started ppl were pegging the Cavs and even the Warriors for alltime great offensive seasons but the more the seasons going on the more it seems like Dallas has the most potential there. Assuming they stay healthy can they have a Goat caliber season on offense?

Define GOAT. If you mean a +8 or a +9 offense I think it's pretty unlikely. Right now Dirk is having the best old man offensive season in history and one of his most efficient seasons ever. They're deep but they're no Spurs: this team goes the way Dirk does. If he can actually maintain thos level the whole season something interesting would be in play but that remains to be seen

No.

Id say maybe, if Dirk was younger.

Pretty much this. Team still struggles at times to score when Dirk sits and he's playing < 30mpg. And while Dirk has been incredibly efficient to start the year, he's not going to keep shooting 55/49/83. That should flatten out to somewhere around 50/40/90 which of course is still incredible, but 21 pts on 14 shots isn't likely to continue.

Still no reason Dallas can't be among the top 2-3 offenses this season and maybe the best. Smart veteran team that shares the ball, has plenty of shooters, a great tactical coach, and of course the big fellow.

Dallas had the best offense in the league after the All Star break. I doubt it will be the GOAT offense but the best in the league is very possible. Also I am not sure who had the Warriors as a top offense in the league.

They certainly are on pace to be
Interesting enough the best offense of all time was the 04 Mavs with Dirk/Nash/Finely/Walker/Jamison/Delk/Howard playing the best version of Nelly-Ball
This version might be a true contender since they play defense and that team was just horrible on the other end.

Its really a bit of a mystery how they have even been doing it for 13 games, let alone 82.

Lol the best offense in history just played the worst defense in history.

What happened was the single best ORtg I have ever seen in a game. If anyone has ever seen higher than 155.6 please link me to a box score, I'd want to watch that game.

How did you find that? BBR doesn't let you search by ORtg

I just searched for really, really high-scoring games after 1980.

B-R actually lets you check that. That game was the 2nd highest O rating since 1986
