Rank LeBron Kobe Wade McGrady top 20 seasons among them

Post#1 » by Justin67 » Tue Mar 3, 2015 3:06 am

All of these are dubbed the next Michael Jordan. They all have amazing styles of play and to me something about them are equally talented.

How would you rank the top 20 seasons among these amazing players?

I'd like someone to post 1st so I don't have to think much about that :D

In no specific order but:
08/09/10/12/13/14 James are locks.
01/06/08/09/10 Kobe are locks too.
03 Tracy McGrady too

So that's 12 seasons there. Probably LeBron gets 4/5 seasons ahead of everyone else (09, 10, 12, 13 and 14). Then we have a bunch of seasons with Kobe, mixed with 08 LeBron and 03 Tracy McGrady... the rest is food for thought. I expect to see 07 and 06 LeBron there, 04 Tracy, and the rest might be mostly Kobe.

All of these players are talented in their own way. I really don't know how their seasons should be ranked. Well 2009 LeBron is probably first.

I wouldn't put any T-Mac season other than 2003 here.

My list would be something like:

1. 2009 LeBron
2. 2013 LeBron
3. 2012 LeBron
4. 2009 Wade
5. 2006 Wade
6. 2003 T-Mac
7. 2010 LeBron
8. 2014 LeBron
9. 2010 Wade
10. 2009 Kobe
11. 2008 Kobe
12. 2006 Kobe
13. 2007 Kobe
14. 2003 Kobe
15. 2008 LeBron
16. 2001 Kobe
17. 2011 LeBron
18. 2011 Wade
19. 2007 LeBron
20. 2006 LeBron

2010 Kobe would be #21, 2005 Wade #22.

You and I are the only people on this forum that have 2009 Kobe as his peak season

Also ive got some brief questions

1 why Kobe 2003 over LeBron 2011?
2 What specific offensive area does 2003 Tmac have the biggest edge over 2014 lebron on?
3. I assume that lebron's great PS play in 2012 helps him move up on this list... Would any other RS jump him if were only using RS?
I came here to do two things: get lost and slice **** up & I'm all out of directions.

RSCD3_ wrote:1 why Kobe 2003 over LeBron 2011?

They're basically equal, and I admit that I may be relying too much on my eye-test on this one, and I may put too much emphasis on Kobe's volume numbers, but I'm very impressed with Bryant's all-around game that year. 2003 is IMO one of his best defensive seasons, and he had some ridiculous stretches, like for example 14 games when he averaged 40.6 ppg on 58.3% TS in February (in a much less efficient league), although the fact that the Lakers were 3-9 in the first 12 games, without Shaq, is somewhat alarming (to be fair though, their roster was pretty bad that year, other than O'Neal/Bryant).
I also thought that Kobe played really well in the playoffs, considering that he had torn labrum.

LeBron was the better all-around player and defender, so I may consider putting him ahead (but the thing is, 2011 was clearly a down year, compared to 2009-10 on one side, 2012-14 on the other).
RSCD3_ wrote:2 What specific offensive area does 2003 Tmac have the biggest edge over 2014 lebron on?

T-Mac was the better midrange shooter (360/834, 43.2%, compared to 166/434, 38.2% for LeBron), better free throw shooter, on a higher volume (79.3% on 9.7 attempts, 75.0% on 7.6 attempts for LBJ), McGrady was also the more effective playmaker (his AST/TOV% ratio is +3.57, compared to just +2.22 for LBJ - T-Mac produced almost as many assists - 30.0%, compared to 32.0, while also turning the ball over much less - just 8.4% TOV, compared to 14.4 for LeBron).

Also, T-Mac's usage was higher (35.2 to 31.0%), and he had a much weaker supporting cast, so the fact that he was so efficient, is extremely impressive. LeBron had better shot selection, he was a much better finisher inside, but league-relative, their efficiency is closer than it is on face value, and obviously T-Mac had higher scoring volume, so maintaining high efficiency is more difficult when you averaged 32 ppg like he did.

Yeah, LeBron's 2012 PS was amazing. If we were only using RS, 2008 and 2010 would be higher (particularly 2008, but it would still be ranked lower than 2010 - what I mean is that relatively speaking, 2008 improves more than 2010 if we don't include the playoffs).

Wow LeBron has potential to be a top 5 GOAT. Over half of the seasons is mostly him.

Wow this is hard.

01. 2013 Lebron
02. 2010 Lebron
03. 2009 Lebron
04. 2012 Lebron
05. 2014 Lebron
06. 2009 Wade
07. 2003 T-Mac
08. 2008 Kobe
09. 2009 Kobe
10. 2006 Kobe
11. 2010 Wade
12. 2006 Wade
13. 2007 Kobe
14. 2008 Lebron
15. 2010 Kobe
16. 2003 Kobe
17. 2001 Kobe
18. 2011 Wade
19. 2011 Lebron
20. 2007 Lebron

The only thing I'm confident about is the top 9. I'm pretty sure that I would take those 5 Lebron seasons over the peaks of the other 3. Then the three peaks themselves could go in any order to me, and then 2009 Kobe is pretty much at that same level. After that it turns into a mish-mash of similar quality seasons.

2001 Kobe is being SEVERELY underrated here. #13, #16 and #17? You kidding me?

28.5ppg, 5.9rpg, 5.0apg on .464% with near elite defense. And the best part? His 29.4ppg, 7.3rpg, 6.1apg on .485% playoff run where he put up back to back 48-16 and 45-10 games against SA and LA went a scorching 16-1.

Based on what is everybody ranking 06 Kobe ahead of 06 LeBron and especially 06 Wade?
Is it because his RS and PS stats are worse or because his RS and PS team results are worse?

I thought LeBron James 2010 season was really underrated. But all in all, that was his statistical peak with numbers 29.7 7.3 8.6:with a PER of 30+

Great posts, even thought it is obvious that Wade and McGrady are great players. But their not even close to the impact Kobe and LeBron has.
