Dennis Rodman vs Chris Bosh - who is better?

Post#1 » by te887848 » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:39 pm

Who was the better player between Dennis Rodman and Chris Bosh? Both are all-time greats and were a key part of multi-champion teams.

As individual players it is Bosh. Rodman needs a certain character on the team to keep him in line otherwise he will be a detriment to the team.

Agreed. It depends on what your team needs.

Rodman easily. Bosh is soft and is both a poor go-to guy and a poor complementary player as he becomes soft and disappears and blames his second-third option status.

Who's better at basketball? Dennis Rodman. There's no limit to his utility defensively, when we talk about players who can truly guard 1-5 he's one of the few who can fit that bill. He was truly a game changer with his and defense, very few forwards comparable. Obviously the GOAT rebounder as well, although that was at the expense of defensive effort at times. Throughout his prime he was consistently a higher impact player than Bosh.

I'll actually agree with JB a little bit- things can go very, very wrong with Rodman in a less than ideal team context. It's fortunate he found his way to championship contending teams pretty consistently, or he might've been even more of a supernova than we witnessed. As a 3rd option on my championship team, there's no question Rodman would be the better option. Stuck in Toronto though, and Bosh handled that much better than Rodman would.

Still on the whole Rodman is pretty clearly better at basketball.

It's close, but in a vacuum, I choose Rodman.
Bosh is mediocre as a "franchise player", and as a third wheel, I'd much rather have Rodman over Bosh. Of course, if you have a bunch of scrubs, you will have betters results with Bosh.
PC Board All Time Fantasy Draft:

PG Mark Price (92-94)
SG Manu Ginobili (05-07)
SF Larry Bird (84-86)
PF Horace Grant (93-95)
C Dwight Howard (09-11)
+
Bernard King (82-84) Vlade Divac (95-97) Derek Harper (88-90) Dan Majerle (91-93) Josh Smith (10-12)

Bosh is not a third wheel. He is a second wheel. Bosh is the better player. Don't penalize for the game sacrifices he made. He is the only one of the Heatles to really sacrifice.

Rodman is not an offensive option at all. He is a Hall of Fame role player.

Rodman, but it is close. Bosh is a great second option. I always say, if the Bulls had gotten Bosh in 2010 and Miami Boozer we win multiple titles (Rose staying healthy, of course)

Bosh is a soft rebounder, and disappeared when the Heat needed him. Even with James gone, he wasn't particularity impressive before he went down (boxscore stats still lower than they were in Toronto).

I'd much rather have Dennis. Bosh is a good defender, but Dennis is relentless and has a crazy motor. Dennis also kills Bosh on glass so badly, that I would say it mitigates any scoring advantage Bosh has. Bosh is a legit 18-20sh scorer - Rodman is like an 18 RPG type of work man, the latter is more valuable to me.

Nice. I wonder if the 11-14 Heat would have been better or worse with Rodman instead of Bosh, or the 96-98 Bulls with Bosh instead of Rodman.

With Rodman out in 1996 we were 15-3. In 1997 we were 21-6 without him and in 1998 we were 2-0 without him. So overall in the 3 years without Rodman we were 38-9.
What was the Heat's record without Bosh those years?

How useful is Rodman if you play him with LeBron as a stretch 4?

well circumstances aren't the same. One teams duo was together forever and healthy. Lebron was peaking but Wade was coming out of his. Bosh, offensively and obviously, was more important to that Heat team.
I say Rodman but team record isn't important.

that's when Rodman was 35,36,37 years old. I'd like to see what Bosh can be when he is 35. I actually think he will retire before that.
