To anyone claiming both ends are even name one team that was a top 5 defense that was bottom 20 without their top defensive player on the court. I can't name one off the top of my head at all.

I can name plenty of offenses that are crap minus one guy but no defenses.

-6.8 on/off on defense isn't bad. That is really good. For example, Bogut is at -6.2 and Green at -6.7 this season. Ben Wallace beat that once from 2001-2006.

The Magic did suck without Howard in 2012:

With Howard: 33-21 (.611)
W/O Howard: 3-7 (.300)
.311 Difference (26 win difference over 82 games)

With Howard: 102.22 D rating
W/o Howard: 113.88 D rating
11.66 Difference

With Howard they would have been 9th place defensively, without him they are 3.6 points worse than the current last place defense (Bobcats). So they would easily be the worst defensive team without him.

Other stats:
With: 92.2 PPG, 43.8 FG%, 46.6 2P%, 41.7 reb
W/0: 100.1 PPG, 50.5 FG%, 54.2 2P%, 39.7 reb
Diff: 7.9 PPG, 6.7 FG%, 7.7 2P%, 2.0 reb, 6.8 TS%

That's a 10 game sample really? And the fact that a -6.8 is great defensively but nothing special offensively says it all. Look at the top offenses by z-score compared to the top defenses all time. Offense is higher. Look at single player on/off on each end. Offense is higher. Every statistic points to offense having more impact.

Defense:

On court: 100.6 D rating (-7.7 relative to league average)
Off court: 108.8 D rating (+0.5 rel to LA)
Difference: -8.2 (According to BasketballValue.com, that difference is the 2nd highest in the league behind Pryzbilla)

The Cavs went from #1 D in the league with LeBron on the court to the equivalent of 18th when he left.

18th isn't bottom 20 though. I wouldn't call the 18th ranked defense bad at all it's nearly average.

Shawn Bradley was a defensive anchor for the Mavericks when he played. Look at 2001 for example

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... -off/2001/

When he was on the court, they had a 96 D rating, which would be the best defense in the NBA. When he was on the bench they had a 109 D rating, the worst defense in the league.

No, this is false. Offense and defense have the same impact. It happens to be easier to make a impact on offense, but a +6 on O and a -6 on D are essentially the same.
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

Im saying the best offenses are better than the best defenses and the worst offenses are worse than the worst defenses because offense is more skilled and less effort/strategy based.
