David Robinson, amazing defender during his whole career. Great man defender, even better team defender. Amazing quickness, strenght and athletism. Ideal basketball player psychicaly speaking.
After him I have Hakeem and Nate the Great (underrated player overall).

Agree about Thurmond's underratedness. There are people on this board and some on others who are aware of how good he was, but at large he's unknown.
I remember your posts from the RPOY project, you consistently brought it. Please continue to do so, sir. This board needs guys like you to counteract ... worthless posters

Wilt not among the choices? Once again he doesn't get credit he's due...Wilt was a hell of a defender, especially later in his career with the Lakers, and was ALWAYS considerably better than average at that phase of the game. Thurmond is probably the best on the list...ask Wilt and Kareem--they will vouch for that.

I have Bill Walton 2nd. He has the ability to guard the perimeter while still being a dominant shot blocker and ultra motor. He's like a 7 foot Draymond

It does seem odd to have Artis, much as I liked his game, on the list and not Wilt though I don't think either are in my top 5 and both are probably top 10 (not sure about Artis, his game deteriorated in Chicago). A couple of years ago there would have been people protesting leaving Dwight Howard off the list too.

If you count rebounding as part of defense, leaving Wilt off the list is a felony. Leaving him off the list is bad enough anyway. When he concentrated on defense, he was an elite stud on the court.

Wilt isn't serious candidate for 2nd best defender ever, but he needs to be in the poll. I'd take him over Rodman for example, Artis is also very close.
