Worst case for Curry's 2016 playoffs

Post#1 » by Jim Naismith » Mon Feb 1, 2016 8:27 pm

Try to imagine the worst case for 2016 Stephen Curry's playoff performance.

Whose bad playoffs would it resemble the most?

    2014 Durant
    2014 Harden
    2011 LeBron
    2011 Kobe
    2007 Dirk
Vote for your choice above.

You mean career-altering injury?

I left out these macabre scenarios to focus on underperformance.

If we exclude injuries, then the worst case scenario from your selections would be 2007 Dirk wherein not only does his production suffer, but the opponent also exposes some fatal flaw in his game. For Dirk that was being unable to effectively attack smaller defenders and being overwhelmed by quick, hard doubles. I don't know what Curry's Achilles heel would be, or if he even has one at this point.

As an aside, I don't think 2014 Durant or 2011 Kobe really underperformed, they just had better competition in the playoffs. Their cumulative RS stats look much better due to bum-slaying, which in turn gives the illusion of a massive drop off in the PS.

If he's healthy i can't really seeing him doing any worse than last year. I don't think he'll sustain a 29 ppg 67-68 ts% against stiffer competition through 4 rounds though.

CP3 or Westbrook at his position out west would be the ones to outplay him for worst case scenario.

I omitted Robinson, since defense is part of Robinson's arsenal, but not part of Curry's.

Worst case?

He goes a combined 5-104 from the field, Warriors lose in 5, he's never the same player again.

Realistic worst case?

Probably like 24/4/7 on 43/38/91

Russ and/or CP outplay him and some team figures out how to defend him. he's only been on the radar like this for a year, so right now most teams are just guessing how to defend him. imagine if 91 MJ popped out the blue in the NBA of 1973, playing at his rookie level beforehand. that's basically what we're seeing here.

If I've understood the question and the options, I'll say 2007 Dirk. Somehow, somebody figures Curry out and just busts up everything that works for the Warriors and ends their season in shocking fashion. Would be kinda funny, too, if it was Carlsisle's Mavs, since that's what the Oakland buzzsaw did to Dirk.
