Does Russel Westbrook gawdy stats diminish Lebron?

Post#1 » by 90sgoat » Tue Nov 29, 2016 1:44 pm

Hear me out.

Russel Westbrook is 6'3'' and on par to average 9 rebounds or so as a guard. Lebron is 6'8'', 250lbs at least, yet he has never sniffed 9 rebounds.

If Russel gets close to a 30-10-10 season, what does that say about Lebron's so called statistical dominance, which is what fans usually use to put him high in the all time lists.

Westbrooks shows that a high energy guy on a bad team can get insane stats with a high usage rate.

It changes nothing for LeBron.

It would be more an incredible achievement for Westbrook if he averaging a triple double for the season.

You would agree though then that Westbrook simply had a better season than any Lebron had?

Did Adrian Dantley make Larry Bird look worse because Dantley scored more effectively?

Westbrook also does this at a fraction of the defensive impact of Prime LeBron which is something a lot of people are overlooking during this spectacular stretch
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

No, but a triple-double for a season for Westbrook would still be one of the best season in NBA history.

Not the same - at all.

Lebron has always gotten the most shine from his 25-8-8 like statline. People never refer to Lebron like 25-8 or 30-8, it is alway those 3 stats together, it has a large visual impact.

If Westbrook comes along and gets 30-10-10 while being a far smaller guard, then yes, it makes Lebron's stats look less impressive.

No, because Points/Rebounds/Assists are not the only thing that determine how good a player is. We have a lot more data that depicts a lot more of what a player is doing on court than simple box-score stats. That said, Westbrook is having the best box-score season EVER.

Ok, so if Westbrook having better stats all around is not better than Lebron, then why should we judge Lebron on his ppg-rpg-apg statline against other greats?

No, though Westbrook is having another great season it doesn't really begin to compare to the best we've seen from Bron. Lebron with a similar quality cast is probably a 55+ win team. He does way more things that don't show up in the boxscore than Westbrook does.

LeBron is not only judged by its stats....James is judged by several things like his impact that he has in his team since the beginning of his career.

Lol for some reason this only diminishes LeBron but not any other players. I see the agenda here.

Fair enough, but if you look at his impact alone, it simply is not as impessive.

It diminishes LeBron if you're purposely looking to diminish LeBron, but then again you don't need an excuse for that - just say you don't think LeBron's that good. What another player does doesn't change how good or bad LeBron is.

Absolutely - and by this logic, his statline should diminish everybody, why just Lebron?

He's doing this in 35.4 MPG. Per 36, only 87 and 88 Jordan scored more. Per 100 possessions his scoring rate is in line with 89/90 Jordan and only significantly below 87 Jordan, while almost doubling Jordan's per 100 reb/ast lines from his prime years with the exception of 89 (which he's only ~50% ahead of).

He's diminishing everyone in NBA history as far as I'm concerned - how good were they really in the face of Russ leading a 113 on-court offense in the most high usage unipolar role ever with the best stats ever?
But in his home dwelling...the hi-top faded warrior is revered. *Smack!* The sound of his palm blocking the basketball... the sound of thousands rising, roaring... the sound of "get that sugar honey iced tea outta here!"

Don't be obtuse.

The number 1 argument for Lebron was always his stats, not his 2011 monumental failing or his 2014 likewise or his sub 40% finals against GSW (second year in a row where his main opponent won MVP).

Why would this not then diminish MJ?
