2016/17 Pelicans thread

Post#1 » by JulesWinnfield » Fri Feb 24, 2017 1:18 am

Tonight is night 1 of one of the most exciting pairing of bigs the league has ever seen. I figure they deserve a thread for that reason alone, if for no other reason than how fascinating they are. To me this is the most exciting team to watch in the league in the 2nd half because of the unknown. They still have serious roster flaws and will take time to gel, but they are suddenly highly compelling

Hosting Houston and looking to make the post all star break playoff push tonight. Cousins has come out early and drained 2 mid range jumpers on his first 2 attempts

I wouldn't look too much into tonight given the turnaround. Around Game 70 is where I'm checking the pulse of this season

They could really use DWill, haha. Absolutely zero backcourt on this team, Jrue can't do it all.

Cousins should handle the rock more than he did this game. Davis as good as he is offensively doesnt really initiate offense like Demarcus,

I think Frazier should get more time with those 2, Jrue was having trouble with the timing on the pickandrolls and when one of the bigs was attacking the rim or the other in post position. They could be deadly but Davis def has to focus more on defense and be the offball/pickandroll big role in the offense. I feel like he got the ball too much this game and Demarcus was the one focusing much more on defense (he had a great game overall, felt like the best player on the court)

Hell of a debut from Cousins though. Poor game all around for most of the team. One of Jrue's worst games ever, but Boogie was one block off a 5x5, 27/14/5 with great efficiency. Hope he continues to play like that.

There is no space for anyone to do anything on offense. No flow, no good passing lanes, no creative off the dribble creators from the perimeter. Huge work in progress.

The Pelicans was smart as hell when they included protection (top-3) of their 1st round pick to Sacramento. If things continue to be a development phase for the Pelicans, the pick has a good shot to be real good for the Kings (if it's too good, the Pelicans will get it -- top-3).

Anyways, they have a lot of things they need to solve -- (guard/wing depth). But they have the most talented 4/5 combination in the league for the next several years, easily.

The team is bad because they have zero perimeter scoring and zero bench.

Its not that difficult to understand, and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

May I ask why you always post in such a condescending and antagonistic manner?

Whatever point you have you should elaborate for one and not just look to insult others unnecessarily. For a so-called older poster you definitely behave like a teenager.

For all the boasting about being an "eye test" guy, some posters are hopelessly ignorant about how teams actually work.

Even if you think they aren't "true superstars", they are undeniably all stars, and if a team has two all stars and can't win, there is probably some flaws in the team.

The logic is flawed either way.

Probably because most of the players on the team suck. Harvard, Oxford and MIT conducted a joint study and found that was the most common reason on why some teams are bad.

Hhhhh. Can't go slow can't go fast. What can they do? Ain't no work in progres. Cousins can't win. Davis maby also if he can't change something.

As far as tonight's game, Cousins played poorly. Davis played very well, but Cousins was really disappointing. I would wait at least 10 games before I start judging them, though. If they fail to reach at least 5-5 record in their next 10 games (assuming both play in every game), I'll start calling them a disappointment. It's still way too early now.
