Andrew Bynum - 2nd best center in the league? - Poster on KG

Post#1 » by ckclark121 » Mon Feb 1, 2010 3:01 am

I'm talking about LEGIT center. STAT and Timmy are Power Forwards in my eyes. To me, Drew is only second to Dwight Howard.

Here are a few clips of Drew doing work on the Celtics today - Posterization included.

^^Bosh isn't a Center.

I think that Marc Gasol should be in contention for that as well, he's be great this year, maybe not as high potential wise but i think that this year they are on the same level.

I agree that Bosh is better, but Bosh is a PF that at times plays the C position.

if drew was the featured post player it wouldn't be much of a discussion. unfortunately his role leads to some lackluster stats at times.

Meh... Marc Gasol, Bogut, Kaman and Lopez jump to mind as similar quality centres. Noah has his adherents for the defensively minded.

Not necessarily saying better or worse, merely that they're all in the ballpark if you exclude Amare and Timmy.

Yeah, as a Laker fan, Drew puts you on a rollercoaster of emotions. One game you'll believe he'll be one of the best centers to play the game, and the next few games you'll be creating trade rumor threads in forums

Amare, the starting center for the West is a PF.

West
Yao
Bynum/Kaman
Oden
M Gasol

East
Dwight
Shaq/Z
Noah

Their are not many out there, Lee will also be seen as a PF later in his career. Its Mike-D making Lee into a center. (Reminds me of P Gasol)

watching him for the last few games the lakers have been out east, i would have to agree. he's gotta get more touches - when he has the ball in the post, his length makes him almost unguardable.

1. Dwight Howard

2. Pau Gasol

This is fairly well known i would think.

Bogut is so severely underrated on these boards. He is EASILY the 2nd best defensive center in the league . Leads the league in charges taken and is wayy up there in blocks too. Great rebounder and solid offensive game.

Bynum has to share the post with Gasol and Kobe. If he has the post all by himself, he could really be a legit 20/10 player.

I could never say that about KG. Even though he is a great player. In some way even in his prime he is Joakim Noah with a jump shot and a little better post game. Outside of that they have the exact same skill set.

You rate Bynum higher then Pau Gasol? Why?

and Timmy's a PF imo

How do you think he separates himself from those four?

MGasol is Marc. Pau is a PF. Duncan is definitely a C now.... he plays next to Blair, McDyess, Bonner... in past years you could call him a PF when he was next to Robinson, Mohammed, Nesterovic, Oberto (iffy), but not now

Switch Bynum with any of those players and Bynum is 20/10. Bynum is 16/8 (17.5/9.5 per 36) on the best team in the NBA and has shown he is capable of dominating when PGasol is out. From what I've seen of all these guys, Bynum is the best offensively, and his defense is solid as well (although inconsistent).

Bynum just has the most well-rounded game of the bunch. Kaman is bad defensively, Bogut struggles offensively at times, Lopez is solid but (imo) Bynum would be better than 19/9 on the historically bad Nets. MGasol is solid on both ends but he just doesnt have the offensive arsenal of Bynum.

Bynum can take over games offensively. Remember, this guy has scored 42 points in a game. As others have mentioned, he shares the post with Pau Gasol. Kobe Bryant is going to get his obligatory 22 shots a game. Odom, Artest, etc.

Having said that, he's got a high assisted FG% (not surprising, given the passing talent surrounding him) and has the defensive focus of a third, if not fourth option...

(basketball-reference has him at 15.5 and 8.3, btw)

You're right in terms of how it's hard to judge his quality given the surrounding pieces, though. Kevin McHale might be a reference point here.
